Thin paint prone to stone chips?
Thin paint prone to stone chips?
Hey,
Has anyone else noticed that the paint on the new 08 lancer seems to be pretty thin?
That's what I'm assuming based on the fact that I already have a few stone chips on the driver and passenger doors down to the bare metal and it seems pretty thin.
I used to have an accord, corolla, matrix and chevy cobalt and the paint seemed to be less prone to chips all the way down to the bare metal...
Would a good waxing do any help to prevent future stone chips?
Kevin.

i think the chip went through the clear coat... and i drive a black GTS too! it's so damn visible. i'm thinking of trying scratch removers but im not sure if it'll work.
I just got my car back from the body shop and they guy said "Oh just so you know, the warranty allowed us to use paint thats better than stock" so now ive got atleast half a car with better paint woot!
Well I'll just say I'm on my second Lancer, yes, a second car due to the paint. I had originally got a black GTS, no additional options. Got it on a weekend and went back to have their guys detail it up. When they pulled that thing out into the sunlight, omg, it looked horrible. I immediately took it to the salesman and he agreed, it looked like a used paint job. Good thing is, they agreed to swap me veh's and due to the mess up, they discounted the one I got, which is white, so my payment didn't really change and this one is loaded. But I must say, even with the white, I'm being really cautious on what I use to wash it. My father has been in the paint business for a long time restoring cars and working for a company that builds firetrucks and paints them. He looked at the new one and said there is hardly any clear on the car at all and if you look close enough, it has what they call fish scale in the paint. I saw it on all the GTS's at the dealer. Basically the paint looks like fish scales if you look close enough. A good paint job wouldn't have that, but thats usually what you get from the factory since its a bunch of robots.
^He was in a car accident, so that'll have something to do with it. But isn't the usual paint warranty 100k? might not have been Mitsu, but that seems to be the industry norm...
I got my car repaired and painted at King Collision which was part of the King Automall where i bought my mitsu, so it should have been through mitsu. Though now for some reason, dunno if its because i havent washed or waxed it yet, there are these crazy 3D swirls on the hood and some other crazy spots everywhere.. im hoping its just from them buffing it and itll come out.
