Battery dying.

Last night I have removed all the power steering and ac components. I added new timing belt and I pluged my '97 ecu. (4g94 engine with 4g93 ecu)

I start the engine and everything is fine. I'm driving from my friends shop, and by my house I see that my battery is dying(looking at the afc). I stopped and the car died.

I couldn't see anything because it was dark as hell. Today after work I'll go and check it out?

What could it be? Keep it in mind that battery and alternator are3-4 weeks old.

Besides that car drove very nice. My engine bas is empty.

P.S. Someone told my to tighten the tentioner. Anything else?

sounds like the alternator is bad... either that or you might want to check the alternator charge fuse.. but an alternator being bad isnt uncommon..

Have you been using that ecu previous to this? Didn't know they could work for the G94's!

It's not the ecu?

Where is the fuse located?

What should be a battery's voltage when turning a key until you start the engine?

My afc shows 11.7. Is that low?

The battery voltage should be above 12.0 VDC (up to ~13.5VDC). Your charging circuit should run about 14VDC or so depending on load and RPM (I only say RPM because some regulators are not as effceint at low RPM). If your car ran fine while driving, but died when you stopped, I would look at the battery. It sounds like it is on its way out. I would take it to a autoparts shop for a load test. If it tests ok, then I would check the wiring from the Alternator to the battery.

My SafcII show 14.4 volt the bat is brand new.

Watch your battery connection.. But.. a car with no battery should still run perfectly, some may tell that its not , but our lancer can. So a good test to see if your alternator is good or not, while to car is running unplug the negative from the battery and youll see if it stall.. then alternator is defect.. if not .. its something else.

So to me , if your alternator is new.. I guess it would be a bad contact from wires..

The alternator Fuse is the one in the tiny box on your positive wire.

Give us some news

Thanks guys.

CharlyOz: So if I unplug the negative while car is running and the car would run fine than what?

Also, 14.4 I used to get when the car was on.

Anything but that. That can fry your electronics in a second. NEVER EVER disconnect the battery terminal to test an alternator!

With engine at 2500 RPMs, voltage across battery terminals should be approximately 14 Volts. If it's not, you have a bad alternator.
