Engine Noise
Engine Noise
I was drving these days and my engine light came on, then i started hearing a ratle in my engine. However when i step on Clutch it goes away... THen when i accelerate, I hear this unusual whistle noise from the engine..
Does anyone know what the problem is before i bring it in?

the rattling could be a nest of things. a bolt might have come loose that's allowing something to rattle about. my old eclipse had a loose heat shield that rattled at idle, but once the throttle opened up, the heat shield fell into sync with the vibrations of the block. also, my current car, the dreaded tempo, had a rattling issue. turned out to be a broken head bolt that was bouncing around the valve train. fortunately, it didn't bend any of the rocker assemblies. but since it sounds like it's clutch related, i would think maybe your tranny needs to be tightened down. you haven't upgraded anything from the drive train, have you? like a new clutch or pressure plate? that might be the culprit, but it's hard to tell without someone taking a look at it.
as for the whistling, i couldn't begin to think what it is aside from a vacuum leak somewhere. check to make sure all of your hoses are attached properly. I'm not sure how well some of the pressure dump hoses on the top of the block are held on, or it could be the MAF might have come loose (hence the rattling). Make sure anything involving air (intake, manifolds, exhaust, vacuum hoses) are tight. also, has the car felt harder to break? power breaking is accomplished by using a vacuum provided by the engine, so if the vacuum hose the large black thing your master cylinder sits on is loose, that would cause some whistling from the engine as well as make the car harder to break.
Of course, these are just ideas that i'm thinking off the top of my head. just go ahead and check some obvious places where you don't need to open anything up like the valve cover or a tranny. just check all of your bolt ons to make sure they're secure, but i would take it to a mechanic as well to assess the problem. the car's probably still under warranty, so your dealer can take a look at it.
