Small or Big problem??

I went to my dealer and he said my right outer axle boot has a slight tear and its leaking grease...he said it wud be atleast 290 to fix... how urgent is this problem...is it ok if i just let it be..?

had a friend who just had this problem in his evo. New boot cost him 40 bucks. But yeah I'd get it fixed.

40 dollars... stupid mitsu dealer said it would be 290 plus tax...

i had a similar problem with the CV boot..got my whole driver side axle rebuilt instead of things replaced..cost me about $275 er sumthin..this was like a year and a half ago so i forget exactly..

By the time you read this reply, it's probably too late. Replace the axle, it should be $100 for the part, and doable in like 20 minutes or so. No big deal.

Next time, if the boot tears, fix it right away, and it will only cost you a boot, not an axle.

^^ They are right. If you tear your CV joint boot, the CV joint usually fails in short order.

As for the dealer price, they are quoting the standard labor time and price. Like they would give a discount. Replacing the boot (or axle) would most likely be quicker and cheaper, but only if you do it yourself. You could shop around, but beware of unscrupulous mechanics.
