Thumbs down Engine not starting....

So I left my girlfriends last night and the engine wouldnt start. I tried a second time and it did. This has only happened 2 other times, 2 being in cold weather and 1 in the past summer. The temps were around 85 F, 25F and then last night was 14F degrees. Any ideas?

Also last night the RPM was at a bout 1500 just staying there. Maybe because its cold out?

I have a CVT.

yes, thats normal for any engine to idle like that when its cold until the engine is at normal temp. As for the starting issue, its well known and there are tons of threads on it already. Next time it happens, push the gas pedal down a bit and it should start right up. Im not sure if its a fuel problem or something with the tps but pressing the pedal down slightly seems to fix it everytime.

This has happened to me twice. Something odd that I came about was that it happens when I was in a rush and didn't let my car idle when starting it. Once was in September.. the other one was just this morning when I went to get my check. Both times, I was in a rush and didn't let my car idle. The first time, it was from the night before, this second time, it was within like a 30 minute interval.

NOT saying this is the problem, but this was what happened to me.

It happened to me twice already this weekend. Mind you, it's -30 Celcius in my city this past weekend, so attribute it to that.

If the car didn't start how are the RPM's at 1500?

I wouldnt do that, it wouldnt make starting the engine more likely. turning the key turns everything over to the computer. Even how long you have the key turned doesnt matter. if it detects a fault in the start upsequence it will abort the start. I did further research and made some calls to hq and techs.

The start up sequence is very picky, an abort can be triggered by a number of things. Everything has to be perfect.

The car should never leave you stranded thou, if it did, then you should take it to the dealer. next time it happens. rank the key to the on position for 10 seconds, crank back and then crank all the way.

This has happened to me a couple of times already too!!! I don’t think it’s the weather since 1. I live in Santa Barbara, CA. (perfect weather all year long) 2. I got my ride in summer. It sucks once I was in a rush to work and I guess I didn’t turn the key all the way but it didn’t want to turn over!!!

I don't know why but when you push the gas it starts when its doing this I don't understand it but that is what works.

It bothers me that an 08 vehicle is having trouble cranking that is some used hoopty type behavior and bothers the hell out of me. The issue is that it's random so I can't show it to the dealer....SMH

Could this be a Throttle Position Sensor issue? Sounds kinda like what I had to dealer with until I did a T-belt change and got in there and thoroughly cleaned it out. Supposedly a TSB on it due to a poor design?

Yeah, I hope Mitsubishi takes care of this issue asap because there's no need for an issue like this on a new car. It's happen to me a few times and friends or people around start looking all weried at a brand new car having issues starting up. lol

well it does, every time too. Depressing the pedal to open the throttle body has had a 100% success rate out of all those that have tried it when they run into this issue. Makes me think its something to do with the TPS or fuel maps in relation to it

I had my car in for service yesterday and asked about this. He said it was a relay issue and he ordered me in a new one so once it's in and they install I'll see if it's any better.
