Gas Mileage
About Wednesday, I noticed that my gas mileage went from 21 highway/town to 28-30 highway/town. I bought my Lancer GTS back in may and it has been awesome but I am just worried that something could be wrong. I have the RRM SRI intake and the RRM Pully.
If you're going by the cars MPG meter...don't. The thing is just flat out stupid.
It's a noticeable decrease in gas mileage that should cause you concern...that's an indicator of clogged air filter, bad spark plugs...even low tire pressure. But most of the time things like that are accompanied by a rough idle or loss of power, too. So, I would go by how the car feels and take what the MPG meter has to say with a grain of salt.

In recent weeks, the cars has become better and has gained more pep, my dad thinks its breaking in but I thought that was only in the first 1000 miles but the cars 5964 miles on it.
Don't discount the change in temperature...the changing seasons can have an effect on mileage as the air becomes cooler and more dense.

hopefully the round of milage testing that i will be conducting will clear the air about how accurate the milage computer is and how fuel efficent the car is in mixed highwa and road trials. I have compiled about 4 guys to help out with the milage. I will post the results on the forum with the video of the whole process.
The only true way to test milage claims is to drive your car a set distance in a normal a fashion as possible on a fill tank of gas. then refuel and figure out how much fuel was burned for that distance travelled.
alot of it is driving habits. so if you drive like a jump jack *** then your fuel economy figures are not going to be a good as someone who drive passively.

And getting back to the OP: If your driving habits and distances are pretty much the same day after day, paying attention to where your gas gauge is can be a good trouble shooter. i.e. If you're usually at half a tank on Wednesdays for 4 weeks and then on the 5th you're at 1/4 tank or less, you know there's an issue (assuming you haven't done any excess driving).
Knit picking at the MPG meter isn't really an indication of anything. It's going to fluctuate because a car isn't always moving at a constant pace...you're constantly accelerating, decelerating, going up and down hills, idling, etc., so it's almost impossible for the car to give you a reliable reading for any length of time.
Weather is a big factor, how you drive your car can be a factor, city vs. highway driving is also another factor, upgrades or mods can be a factor.... My point is there are many factors that could have affected your mpg. In your case it seems that your fuel mileage has improve. Have you recently mod or replaced your pulley? Any recent mods?
