Thin paint?
today i looked at side skirts, and the bottom of the rear door.. holy **** i have never seen that many paint chips in my life.. i thought it was dirt at first, i have never seen anything like this before.. i should have put on the 3m film on the car when i first got it.. by next year or so this car is going to look like ****, the front bumper is all screwed up, its not worth fixing because you pretty much have to get everything re-painted.. i came from a cobalt, and i thought that paint was cheap, our car's is like 10 x worst. .. i will probably just trade up for the EVO x and protect it with the 3m film so i dont have this problem in the future.
Im ****ing fed up so bad . I washed my car today and OMFG it's rediculus the amout of paint chips i have on the front and sides , its not even funny my car is only 6 months old and 7600 km . I sold my 2000 mazda protege at 160 000 km and the paint was in better shape then my freaking 08 lancer . This is my first and last mitsubishi . Im going to show this to the dealer preatty damn soon .

exactly like me...never again will I consider a Mitsubishi product EVER! I can understand paint chips on the front but when you start seeing random paint chips on your side doors, trunk, roof, clear coat flaking off on the side skirts and front bmper, and rust spots forming, you know this isn't a matter of how the owner takes care of his/her car.
I could be wrong, but besides the rear door hinge problem that was brought up by the side crash test, what other issues has Mitsubishi Canada dealt with? Nothing...yes it takes time to figure out solutions but from what Im reading and hearing from other owners their patience is starting to wear thin with Mitsubishi poor customer service.
Has anyone gotten any results about this whole paint issue from Mitsubishi? I just washed mine today, and was just waxing it and there are scratches, paint chips, and rust in all sorts of places ... Without exageratting or anything, I have a 1991 Dodge Caravan whose paint is in better condition than my 2008 Lancer's. I was going to take it to the dealer to complain, but seeing the results people have had doing that, doesn't seem worth my time. Just to be fair to them, I will take it in to give them a chance to do something, but short of that, I really don't know what to do about this ... It's sad, I'll take pics of the van and car and post them.
They gave me a touchup paint pen, but that thing doesn't really work very well at all, or I just have no idea what I'm doing, but the paint won't come down to the tip at all. I'm just frustrated at the fact that I have to deal with these things on a brand new car. I used to drive an 84 Regal and I had fewer things to worry about.

washed my car today and couldn't believe all the new paint chips on my doors and the amount of clear coat that has come off.
I'll probably be going into a honda dealership sometime soon to get info on a 08 Si sedan, take one for a spin, and work out something including trading in my GTS. Im just sick of the **** I've already gone through with this car.

What in the world did u use to wash the car with? Rough side of a sponge? I only use soft cloth and been washing my car every 2 weeks for almost 7 months and i dont see any wear anywhere. I wax it once in a while too.
I guess this is a problem with everyone. You have to be a bit more gentle

Hey, i was up in Colorado this Christmas and stayed for 2 weeks. Drove this car around Denver along with at least 36 hours round trip from, to, and back to Cali... went through mini snow storms up in the rockies and everything. No problems really. But hey, i havent tried driving around snow for 3 months at a time so yah...

Im actually very careful when washing my car, I only use the best on my car and always use proper washing techniques if thats what you wanna call it. It's not my fault that the paint can't hold up during the winter with road salt and debris on the roads. It's a joke having a car a few months old looking that bad already, and even if the dealership agrees theres a problem, I wouldn't trust there work as well.
I know I'll take a hit getting rid of this car, but if it isn't too bad I'll start shopping around for something else...I regret dearly buying this car.
Ok so yeah the paint blows. The big question is will the dealerships do anything about this? I'm going to talk to my dealership this monday to see wuts up kuz the guy that sold me my car is pretty cool (we go fishing together sometimes lol). I already called him and we're both busy til monday but if i can get him to help me out with this pain issue i'll see if i can get some info for yall so yall can "leagaly(sp?)" handle this business with mitsu. oh and i say "yall" because i'm from texas; and i'm asian lol.
til then!
til then!
I've contacted Mitsubishi Canada today and left my name and number, since their offices were closed, but if I don't hear from them by noon tommorow, I'll call again. Im not even going to bother taking my car to the dealership because they've given me problems with obvious issues and I don't expect anything to be done if I brought it in for this.
Washed my car today and noticed even more paint chips, and rust spots on my trunk, not to mention the rust is starting to run down the paint. Im tired of this and I can't even get this out of my mind, thats how pissed I am. It bothers me thinking how the car is not even a year old and it already needs a paint job, the front end, hood, mirrors, skirts, doors, and even my fog lights are in pretty rough shape.
I'll keep you guys updated on this situation, I don't plan to back down one bit from them, Im sick of Mitsubishi's bull**** and the run around they've given me and other owners. Plus I won't even let them suggest getting my car repainted because I bought a brand new car for a reason...if I wanted a repainted car Id buy something used.

the thing is Im tired of wasting my time with the problems with this car. I've wasted time from work and my personal life dealing with issues that never were fixed. I've argued endlessly, got aggrevated, and treated like **** and Im tired of my dealerships bs and all the others for that matter.
Called Mitsubishi HQ today regarding the paint, they told me to take it to a dealership first for them to have a look at it. I pretty much went on a rant about my troubles with the car and my dealership but I got the usual "im sorry that this has hapen to you" line, but nothing else.
The guy I was talking to from HQ called a dealership up and told me Id be going in to show them the car. I get there and instantly the girl is already telling me at the dealership that paint chips arent covered under warrenty...I haven't even showed them the car yet and the bs was already coming out. So another guy from the service department came outside to look at the car and said that the car appears to be driven alot on the highway, hence why I have chips...yet he didn't have much to say about the chips on my roof, skirts, side doors, not to mention the rust that has formed where it has chipped. His eyes most of the time were fixed on the front end, obviously where a car is more likely to get chips but never had anything to say about why the paint was chipping in other areas that are very rare to occur. They suggested the car needed a wax job, and that a 3M clear bra would of helped the problem.
But what they don't understand is the paint is crap and too thin...cars are meant to be driven on highways as well, not side streets. What the hell do they expect me to do? Drive all the way to work on side streets so I reduce the chances of getting paint chips. I can't believe they think its normal for a car 5-6months old to have that much paint and clear coat chipped off with rust specs here and there. This is exactly why I told the guy from HQ that I wanted a rep to see my car instead of somebody from a dealership...exuses always roll out when it comes to a problem because of them.
The service department guy is calling that same person I talked to from HQ to tell him what he's seen, I don't expect him to say anything but the its chips from debris on the highway to the HQ guy. I'll keep you guys updated.
