How does your car idle?

Hey ive got a lancer with 1500miles on it. And for some reason it seems to be idleing wierd..Now its possable i just did not notice the sound befor which is why i am posting now. My quesiton is when your start your car for the first time in a day, does it idle high for like 2 or 3 minutes because thats what mine does. Also mine seems to idle like alitle loud. BUt on the tac it is smooth. I installed an RMR intake a fiew weeke ago and its running fine. Coud this cause the idle to sound louder than it is? Just can you guys let me know if this is ok.

My car's got 29000. After a little over a year, I've grown used to the high idle during cold startup. I've talked to a few other guys with the same high idle, so I've decided it's normal.

The engine is very ticky, and will make noise. Also, with the intake, you will have a slightly higher dB that with a stock Lancer.

Definately got a loud idle at cold start, and I noticed it sounds louder with my intake and exhaust, but its still at the same idle as before mods. You will get used to it in time

On cold start the engine managment system pumps more gas into the engine so that it gets warmed up quickly. So its going to be a little louder and rev higher just after startup.

The high idle is probably the comp trying to get the coolant warmed up to operating temp. Even in the summer it will idle a little high until it has warmed up. Doesn't sound like anything to worry about. But if you are not sure have the dealer take a look.

yeah, most cars idle high for the first few minutes. mine does, then drops down to a SILENT 600 rpms. i plan on taking a low-res video of it at startup to compare the effects of an earthing kit installed. i'll keep ya posted.

The intake doesn't cause your car to idle any differently than it normally would. As said before, the high idle on cold starts is due to the engine being cold. One thing that definitely helps the idle is new plugs and wires. After I installed mine, my idle only jumps to barely over 2k, then immediately dips to almost 1.5k within seconds of starting my car after parking it outside while I'm at work.

Well once in a while I will be at a light and my idle fluctuates crazy, and then stalls. It starts back up but I don't get why it does that. I have many mods.

Maybe an air leak after your MAS, that would cause a rich condition and possibly stalling

ozrmrlancer, that sounds like a problem. Other than that case, fluctuating idle is common in 4 bangers, especially with the AC on. And all cars rev higher on cold start, which is why I still give my car about 30-60 seconds warm-up before putting it in gear (I would say before moving, but I actually roll down my hill for warn-up )
