New Intake issues. HELP!!!

I currently installed a short ram intake on my car out of pvc pipe. I had to make my own bracket for the maf. However, when i have the maf plugged in, the car dies so I've been running without my maf plugged in. Its now running way rich. To the point where i smell gas while im driving. Whats going on?!

post pics please....i know my car doesnt run with out the maf plugged in so thats kinda weird....the slightest drop or bang on the maf could not make it work...look inside the maf box and see if the maf sensor is still there and not broken but do not touch it with anything!

I'm surprised you can keep it running without the MAF hooked up.

Yeah, it will die when the maf is plugged in... Nothing looks out of the ordinary right now, but ill post pictures tomorrow.
It will idle sporadically whilst unplugged and the CEL is on. (obviously)

did you use a MAF adaptor?

your car will run without the MAF, but of course it will run like it is running now (rich) you need your MAF and it seems the way you set-up your intake is wrong so its not reading the air coming in right or i guess not at all when plugged in so its dying right away. let me know your set-up so i can help you more in depth.

i had actually made my own adaptor for the maf out of a few slits of sheet metal.
maybe its not air tight though.

would you recommend using an actual adaptor?

i would suggest using a real adapter for your intake without it theres no point in using a different intake system other than your stock intake system. I would put back on the stock intake system..until you get all materials needed to complete your intake kit and have it running right.

I went ahead and ordered an actual adapter for it. Putting in the old intake will take too much effort, so i'll sacrifice poor gas mileage and rich burning fuel until it arrives. keeping my fingers crossed!!!

I hate to say it but your set up is super ****ing ghetto
Get a proper intake or go back to stock. PVC pipe wasn't invented for an intake in a car.

Edit: Is your MAF even plugged in?

How is it different than any other intake?
i know the mounting bracket is rough, but it still does the job.
PVC is made to with stand heat better than some metals too.
we'll see how it looks with the new bracket and a coat of paint...
