oil leaks and SES lights

I drive an 02 OZ rally and I just recently changed my oil after about 3k miles. I bought the car and since then, I've changed the oil two times. Both times I've used a FRAM PH7317 filter and 5/30 oil. But this last oil change, I noticed oil leaking from my filter. I checked the filter prior to putting it on if anything was stripped or if the gasket from the prior filter was still on, but neither was the case. And now it's dripping oil steadily about a drip every 15 minutes. Anyone know what could be wrong?

Also, Yesterday I noticed the service engine soon light came on (yellow). I checked the fluids and everything seems to be okay except for the oil leak. I do need to replace the breaks, and the power steering fluid could be refilled, are either one of these a possible cause for the SES light? I first noticed the SES light driving in 2nd gear at 3500rpm, right before i switched to 3rd. I dont usually wait until 3rd gear to switch gears, but it just happened that way at the time. If anyone could help me troubleshoot these problems, it'd be very very appreciated. Worst case scenario, I'll have it diagnosed. Thanks in Advance.

I'd try a new filter to be sure of the leak issues. Is it tight? Is it the right filter per that part #?

For the CEL light, you have to get the code read at pep boys or something to that effect for anyone to be able to help you. Unfortunately, there's a myriad of things it could be and no one can say for sure without the code. Perhaps the two are connected.

i did try a new filter, and it was the correct one filter for my car. What had happened was, the first time i put in the filter, it went in a little crooked and shot out oil. Oil then got on my timing belt and it slipped two teeth. I had a friend put it back on its time and changed out the filter to fix the busted gasket, and it hasn't had problems since. It does have a more rough and louder start-up when the engine's been cold for a while, but it gets better once i let the car idle for about a minute. other than that, problem solved. THANK you for the insight. very much appreciated!!
