airbag (srs?) light comes on intermittently

does anyone know what would cause the airbag light (and "requires service" message) to come on and off randomly?

i have an '08 lancer ES. it has not been in any accidents, (except for hitting a racoon.) that dented in the lower part of the passenger side bumper facia. i popped the dent back out myself, and it looks fine. the only thing that broke is some of the plastic guard directly underneath.

anyway, the racoon thing was months ago, and the light just started coming on last night.

maybe some ice or moisture got into a sensor somewhere? any things i can check myself?

thanks in advance for any help.

Why not just get it checked out by your dealer? Use that warranty.

i had that problem with so many different cars... possibly it happens while getting ur car washed, if the washer guy sprays water with pressure water gun into the doorstep the problem occurs... as u guys know there are srs plugs underneath the seat... and it may got moisture with some other reason... if u got ur car washed in the near future possibly we know the problem, if not get ur car to the dealer and get it checked...

I know mine was going off for a while, and it had something to do with the position sensor of the seat. Like the seat wasn't fully into one of the positions but in an inbetween seat. After getting in the seat and moving back then forward and making sure it clicked into a position, i havn't seen the light again.

This has happened before in my parents lancer. My dad called and complained and said after i screwed with his radio the airbag light was on for the passenger along with the seatbelt light. But after my 200lb brother plopped himself in the seat everything was reset.

have you messed with the radio at all ? because if the small 4-5" flat ribbon cable that plugs into where the hazard button is, isnt inserted all the way the light will also come on.

just a suggestion.

I just started selling these at a dealer ship in memphis. I have a slightly used one that has the same problem. I came on here to see if anyone else was having this issue. I will take this one over to service and see what i can find out, and repost with my findings.

Sorry for the delay in the post, but the news on this particular lancer with 3k miles i may add, turns out the main computer is bad and needed replacing. As of friday, the computer was replaced and the light is now off.
Not to say this is the same problem you have, but it is worth mentioning to your service manager.

Hope it helps.
