Low Tire Pressure

Does anybody get the "low tire pressure" warning in very cold weather? When I start my car in the mornings in below 25F temp, i get the "low tire pressure" warning. Every time i check it, all 4 tires are fine.

warm air expands.. thats why when your tires are warmed up, the warning goes away

what's the pressure when the car is cold? I usually keep my tires inflated a couple psi above the recommended pressure so even when it's very cold it doesn't drop low enough to show a warning. but you're supposed to adjust the pressure according to the season.

35 PSI seems to be the magic number...no matter how cold it is outside, you'll never get the TPS warning.

Neither tire had any holes or anything when the dealership checked it all they could say was continue to monitor it. i said screw that got some of that green goop from autozone havent had a problem since and its 2 weeks later

That green goop is the worst thing you can put inside of your tires. Enjoy paying extra for having it cleaned out at some tire shops. Besides that stuff is meant as a temporary fix. The most probable reason you are losing pressure is a bad seal on the bead of the tire. Have them demount and remount the tire...and make them check the bead of the tire and make sure there is no damage.

Yes, colder temperatures cause you to lose a few PSI -- setting off the TPMS. Also you might have a faulty rim or seal at the bead. I took off the stockers set at 35 psi and have been sitting in my garage while I'm rocking steelies with winter tires. One of my stock tires is completely flat only after 2 months. Guess I will have to get that checked come spring time. Alloy rims are notorious for leaking due to their porous structure.

Si senor, i have this problem as well, i asked my service manager about this and he says the cold weather will cause this if your tire is even a little low, and still may come on if you are at 32 psi at 40 degrees. Air contracts at cold temperatures, and expands at warmer. Fill your tires to slightly above 32 and that should solve the problem in the winter. As you know, lower tire pressure will reduce your gas mileage.
