HELP ME Comp. FRIED!!!

i just brought my car to mitsubishi because my rear defroster and recirculation buttons stopped working and they told me it was because i fried my computer. they blamed this on the fact that i installed two tweeters in the cubby hole and they created a big enough magnetic field to destroy the computer. i also just called up two audio installers and a friend who has the same set up and they all feel that it is impossible that a tweeter can create a big enough field to do that. this is despite the fact that i have had extensive air conditioner work done to my car over the summer because mitsubishi couldnt diagnose the problem, and i am wondering how you guys feel. i have to pay a $100 diagnostic fee no matter what and then another 500 for the computer if i let them do it. should i get a second opinion or fight with them because they sold me a car with a broken A/C? PLEASE HELP ME!!!

There's no reason you should pay for their mistake. At least that's my take on it.

ok just trying to make sure.....but is it really possible that it took two months for this problem to arise? I mean they finally fixed my AC in the middle of August and it breaks down two months later? I don't understand, but how can I go about making them pay for it? How an I convince them that it was their fault because they seem set on the fact that it was my fault entirely.

I have argued for hours with the service manager at mitsubishi. is there somebody else i can contact to help me with this problem, or somebody who will help me to get a price reduction from this dealer? this is a huge problem because i can not afford to pay for this just yet, and he said that my compressor might blow if i leave it alone and a compressor is $1000

Call mitsu HQ and report their assses... make a complaint and demand to talk to the district rep. But only if your car is still underwaranty. if they deny your claim it is up to them to prove what they are claiming happened.

If its still under waranty and they keep up the bs after talking to the rep...pay for it get their comments in writing on; why they didnt waranty your claim, why you had to pay for it and then take this all to the states attourney and nail their asses to the wall....and dont forget to get all of your receipts for all of the work that has been done on the car now ad before.

If what they are saying os true then any electrical device could cause your computer to fry.... For this to happen those tweeters would have had to have been powered with some SERious juice.,... I mean Serious power not possible,..

i believe going under power lines would cause more of an electric field than two small *** tweets..

ok thanks a lot guys.....one last question is it possible for a computer to fry if something is soldered to wiring in the car? all of my connections are just male-female connections, but i have heard that if something is soldered this can cause a short and fry the comp.....is that possible? should i double check the work done on my car?

and my car is still under warranty but this type of electrical problem is not covered.....

yes the connectoins in the car can definitley short the computer but only if there was a short in one of the wires that directyl connects to the ECU...
So if you have an AFC spliced into the Cars ECU and the power wire touches a ground to the car then yes it could happen but your tweets shorting probably coulnd not have created an issue with your ECU.

Mitsu has had numours issues with their ECU's findout what is wrong with the ECU. CAPS etc. Maybee it can be repaired... I have a giy that does some work on ECU's if you want to see if there is anything he can do with it....I mean if you open the ECU and there is a big burn mark on it it had to be eiether a compnoent failure or a short..cause by different things...but definitley not your tweeters...unless you hhokoed them up to your ECU. DID YOU? lol

lol no, i have a power wire from battery to amp, then to cap, and my subs to amp. my tweeters are connected to their crossovers which hook right up to the factory speaker wires because i didnt amp them. the guy at mitsu told me that it was due to my speakers and feels that the parts wont be comped because lancer's do not have computer problems unless it was another companies fault such as body shop welding rear left quarter panel which can short the computer etc. he told me all he is going to do is give me 20% off before tax on the computer so it comes out to 320.....i am going to take it to new jersey to a mechanic i know to see what he thinks......thanks a lot guys

dude I had ADS tweets and some OZ components in my kciks in my eclipse with neon and other **** under the dash and had no problem...

Tell them to prove that the tweeters could have caused an electrical current/field so large that it killed your ECU. Not possible. SOUNDS like he thinks its an EMP or somtheing.lol what a moron.

#2 your speakers and all electronics sold in the US are required by the gov to not be able to interfere with the operation of other elctronic equipment.

I would get a hold of the manufacturer of the tweets and get their advice on their product meeting these governmental regulations.... get a hard copy and show that ti dick smak. tell him to prove it...

Could you imagine what would happen if speakers could realyl do this?
Tell him to give hard evidence of other cases of speakers doing this... make them provide the evidence, scientific data, magazine articles, new paper aticles.. This guys is giving you **** becuase he thingks he can. If he was even close to being educated he would tell you what kind of acceptable interference the ECU could handle and show that the speakers were capable of creating that type of interference... Even then it couldnt have blown your ECU without some sort of electrical charhge that could fly though the air... Ever seen a Tesla coil? cool **** .. anyway this is not possibkle with the small amount sof power going to your tweerts///bla blah blah

If worse comes to worse, call a few wrecking yards and get a price on a comp. its easy to change, Right behind the glove box. If you do get one from a junk yard, it should be fairly new, the lancer has only been here for 2 years, JUST MAKE SURE ITS FROM THE SAME TRANNY AS YOURS, manual and standard are different.
