09 GTS, CVT wouldent change ratio

Car; 09 lancer GTS with CVT and paddle shifting, no modifications (14499 miles)

I was pulling out of a parking lot (car was fully heated up) and my front passenger side wheel lost traction (I hit a patch of gravel) and regained traction a second later, about 3 seconds later I noticed that the engine was revving up like I had the car in manual mode. I was not in manual mode and D was displayed on the info display and the car shift lever was also in Drive mode. I quickly moved the shift lever to manual mode and shifted up without a problem. The RPMS never got above 4000, but it did catch me off guard and now im worried about my car.

Any else had this problem? Could there be a problem with the tranny? What could of caused this? Is it safe to drive my car? should I go to the dealer?

Any info will help thanks!

Suck to have icy driveway. But you should be fine the computer probably thinks you still loosing traction. No worries.

If it happens again it will most likely light your check tans. light. Until then, I wouldn't worry about it.

same thing has happened to me before when a wheel loss traction but as soon as the computer recognized where it was it got back on "track" , key is to not keep applying gas when this happens, lay off the pedal and wait or drop it to manual mode

This is exactly a problem, its more a flaw in CVT logic.

I have had this happen to and its very strange, in my case it sometimes happen (rare) when i am making a left hand turn, its my turn, and waiting for that break in traffic so I can accelerate and complete the turn. Sometimes on a cold day I will hit a patch of black ice and the wheels will spin.

Now somewhere in the CVT logics there is something that causes it to think its going at a faster or slower speed than it really is. Once you drive for a bit, your car should once again realize its going at a normal speed and the gear ratios will come back in line with what your throttle input is.

It shouldnt trigger a code, if it does then I would most certainly go in and get it checked out.

Other than that, its something within spec and can happen. (not normal, but acceptable)

you think the cvt would also talk to the ABS ECU on the datalink and see that the rear wheels are not going anywhere. I guess that would be more of a traction control not included in our model :P

correct. But since each system must be independantly run. I think your correct to hint that the traction control version of our car (touring edition) would likely not have this problem.

Then again... its a very complicated CVT programming thing. lol programmers might just say F' it! and call it a day.
