my speed stops at 80!

ok i usually get all the way up to 95-100 on the highway, but today was the first time, and i got so pissed off cuz i was just going like 65, and some punk kid was trying to pass me so i hit the accelly , and i did leave him but only to find out that my needle got stuck on 80 mph and i slowed down cuz i had to exit and get on the road wich leads to my destination i get there and worry so as soon as i have to get back on the highway i notice the same crap i get stuck on 80 neddle wont idle but just stop at 80. so now im asking...is something wrong with my engine now? ..should i be worried? what the hell is going on! has anybody had this problem? i mean i know some will say, oh thats your top speed and it taps out at 80, but damn it how can one hour it be doing 100, and a few hours later its doing only 80 and wont go higher?

80 is definitely not the cap, I hit 100 on the regular, and 80+ too many times to count.......

You should't be seeing a total stop in power until after about 116. Try disconnecting your battery to reset the ECU. Maybe the air/fuel ratios are messed up.

When is the last time you got an oil change or new spark plugs? Lack of spark will have a very adverse effect of power. Does the car behave normally under that speed? Is the idle rough?

Since your car seems to be stock...take it to the dealership. No reason you shouldn't get it serviced for free, right?

i feel ya, after i hit 80mph on the express way, it takes forever to get to 90....95....100...... is it just that our cars have no top end? mine dosent totally stop at 80, but it takes forever to get higher up in the numbers.
