2008 GTS oem Fog lights

Well , the oem fog lights are not working. At first I thought it was the bulbs so I replaced them . Still no luck. I checked the fuses those were fine . I can hear the relay click when I turn them on. Hood up and car off. I checked both fuses under the hood and under the dash. I searched on here and checked with my friend google. No luck . I took a probe , the kind with the two leads and a bulb rated for low voltage . No dice. They didn't work when I bought the car but I didn't notice it .

The car has the balance of the factory warranty left. If it is something I can try to fix without starting a fire I'd rather do that then take it to a stealership. Any ideas ?

Thanks in adavnce.

To properly diagnose, you will need a test light, (which you seem to have some version of it), jumper wires, and a digital multimeter. Test the fuses, it may seem fine to the eye but sometime they can be open.

First, check fuse 1 in the engine relay box (under the hood), it fuse 1 is ok (power on both sides) Check pins 4 and 2 at relay a-11 (fog light relay). You should have power at these pins. Connect your test light between pins 1 and 2 on the relay socket in the fuse box. Turn on the fog lights. Your test light should light up.

The fog light switch will tell the ETACS ecu to provide ground, causing the relay to close pins 4 and 3 sending voltage to your fog lights.

So if the fuse is ok, the signal from the etacs ecu is ok, then take the relay, put jumper wires on pins 1 and 2 on the relay, one to power and one to ground. Take your multimeter, measure resistance from pins 3 and 4. You should have less than 2 ohms.

If that is not the case, then you need a relay. If you have no power to power to pins 2 and 4 you need a fuse, or fusible link. If your ETACS does not provide a ground, you need someone with advanced electronic diagnosis ability, because it gets very complicated after that.

If all is well and your relay is functioning properly, you need to test continuity from pin 3(relay box) to pin 2 on both fog light connectors, then also test pin 1 on fog light connectors to a chassis ground or battery (-) If all is ok, then you need to simulate a load on the fog light harness. Supply voltage to pin 3 at the relay box. Test for voltage at the foglight connector, with the light bulb in, and with it out. If you have voltage with the bulb out but not in, then you have a bad wire from the relay box all the way to ground somewhere.

Hope this helps...good luck

Thanks for the quick response. I'll know Friday . I'm heading to my buddies house since I have the day off and have more time to play around with it instead of an hour or two before it gets dark out.

I'll post the results .

Take it to the stealership. They will diagnose and correct since it sounds like a warranty problem. You didn't by chance do a DRL mod?

No mods yet. Been to cold and my garage is not heated.

I plan on HIDs , maybe Halos . I had 'em on my Mazda 6 so it depends if I feel like baking the headlights open. A CAI is a must . Maybe a header .

The fuses check out . The relay checks out. Just no power at the bulbs . Looks like it's going to the dealer . I was kinda hoping I could fix it myself but I have a long weekend next week so a few days without the car won't kill me.

It shouldn't take them more than an hour or two to figure it out. I find broken wires in semi trucks, and the harness is up to 25 feet long sometimes... Takes no more than 4 hours to find a broken wire on 25 feet of 20+ wires in a harness!

Follow my instructions and you should figure it out.

Any chance someone has taken the bumper off before and didn't plug the harness back in? Would be an easy fix if so. Thought it was worth mentioning.

Turns out you were right on the money. I downloaded a service manual for the '10 evo 10 . Looked up the wiring connections and found connector 50A was not connected . I connected it tried the fogs out and it worked.

Thanks for saving me a bunch of time.

Thanks everybody for your advice/suggestions it did not go unnoticed.

Good thing you didn't spend any more time on it haha.
