oil pressure light comes on
oil pressure light comes on
04 OZ rally about 80k miles.
GF's car, she tells me oil pressure light comes on randomly. In the past month its been on 4-5 times and the car is driven daily. Normally happens under braking.
Never on cold startups.
I checked oil and it was full, i added .25qts just for safe measures. I did the valve cover gasket about a month or 2 ago, i know the head isn't sludge up at all, as it was nice and clean. I assume the oil pressure sensor is the faulty. There is no CEL. Googling around i see the sensor is NORMALLY right over the oil filter. I dont remember it the lancer has a side mounted filter or if it screws upwards.
you guys think its mainly a oil pressure sensor or something else

Probably just faulty sensor. I effed up my valve cover gasket and didnt realize it. Found out when I checked my oil one day and found it was below the min mark. Still no oil light then and my oil pressure gauge was still reading good pressure. Unless your oil pump is going out.... Oil filter is straight down.
i never looked for the sensor if oil filter is straight down, the sensor is mounted above it, on that sandwich block thing right?
I did the VC gasket. Its been really nice and clean least on the front side. I didn't pull the plugs yet to confirm that the O rings are sealing yet. I guess i can do that when i get the sensor.
GF just text me saying it was on at idle. I'm hoping its just a bad sensor.

It could be a faulty sensor but I would assume it would start to do it more and more often. Could be a oil pump getting weak, and when the car has been running for a while , the oil thins out more than usual . And that's when is loses some of it's pressure.
Change the sensor, you can buy it from autozone for cheap and it's easy to replace. Just jack up the right front wheel, put a block under it, and you can find the sensor sitting right underneath the car. There's a write up around the forums somehow
