08 GTS bulbs run way too hot!
I have an 08 Lancer GTS and my bulbs run way way to hot. to the point you cannot touch them with bare hands because you will get a heat blister. my right light actually just went out yesterday. i had this problem once where it ran too hot so i brought it in so they can replace what i thought they would do the whole wiring but i guess not. the bulb was burnt into the connector piece when i went to look at it last night. does anyone else have this issue? is their a way to fix it for a one shot deal?
Nothing is ever a one shot fix, unless its a fuse or a burnt out light. You have a burnt bulb and melted wiring. At least a two shot deal!
I hope you are not touching the bulb itself! The oils from your skin will damage the bulb.
If you mean the back of the bulb (the connector) Then ok, it should not be that hot.
If the connector there is melted, chances are you had a poor connection or high resistance somewhere, creating all the heat. Find the high resistance and you will find your problem.

no im not touching the bulb, i wouldn't want to ruin them, its the connecter piece thats the issue. yea i think its the wiring which is the issue, because when the light use to work, sometimes it would just turn off so when i pop the hood, and jiggle the wire it would turn back on. so thats why i know it has to be that wire. i told the Mazda dealer (thats where i found my car) and they they'll fix it they ordered me new bulbs and just the connecter. worked for a small time but they need to replace the wire.
Yea, so looks like it was a poor connection problem with the pins, which created high resistance in turn, creating heat and melting the connector. I would get a new connector and new pins. You will need special pin removal tools and crimpers. Also replace that bulb as well. I would suggest an automotive shop do this, as the will have the special tools required. Crimpers alone are usually over 50$ and the the removal tools can be up there with price as well. Plus its always good to have someone who knows what they are doing. Good luck
Thank you for the suggestions , sounds good. i rather have as much info that i can going into this then just trying to go in blind and doing w.e i think is right. its just an annoying pain because i went to get it fixed by the dealer and Obv its not lol. so looks like its time to do it outside the dealer. once im able to take my car in and its fixed, ill follow up with anything if this happens again.
Forgot about this post. After they fixed the unit a 3rd time. each side was fixed once. They been good. Had them cover the cost since They fixed it once and it went bad shortly after.
