so my brake lights recently went out. i first went to check that the bulbs were ok, and they all flash when my alarm my car so thats not it. then i assume its the brake switch since the bulbs work, so i replace the brake switch but theyre still not working. does anyone have any ideas of what it could be?
this happened to me , i found it was a loose wire connection, where the wire came loose from the bulb housing......slipped it back in and re-taped it and now it works fine....mybe thats whats wrong with yours? good luck....
when i step on the brake i dont get any brake lights, but the parking lights work fine which means the bulbs are fine.
if the lights turn on, it cant be the fuse right? unless there is a specific fuse for just the brake lights and not the parking lights?
If the parking lights come on it does not mean the bulbs are fine. They are dual filament bulbs, but if its all the brake lights dont work it could be a simple fuse.
you guys were right, it was the fuse that blew out. why would the light still turn on if the fuse was out though?
Just like posted above the bulbs are dual filament which means they have two levels of brightness. Which is why there are 2 circuits. One that has them on for the running lights and another for when you step on the brake.
I am having the same problem. My brake lights won't work. Everything else is fine. My son checked all of the fuses and they seemed to be fine. I don't know, maybe he missed one. Where was the fuse that was blown in your car? I changed my entire floor harness. Maybe I didn't get one of the connectors plugged in correctly or possibly I damaged a pin when connecting the plug under the dash. I know it was pretty tight in there to plug it in.
double check the exact fuse, maybe even swap it for a known good one just to eliminate it as a potential. Do you have a multimeter? If you don't have a manual to work off, head over to evoscan website and you can download the shop manual for free.
@DavidGsr On the Evo it appears the stop light circuit fuse is located in the relay box in the engine compartment. Its possible your Lancer has a similar set up but you really need your manual. Our fuse is no. 10 in the relay box (not the fuse panel lower front interior)
