Intake into AIRFLOW SENSOR?
go out and measure (a ruler MIGHT be accurate enough) the dimensions of the MAS input and the filter output. Call up someplace with adapter plates (I can't tell you any since I'm more into the Rx7 world) and see if those dimensions are the same. If not, you can either fabricate one yourself or have one made somewhere else to use this filter. There's always the option of getting another filter and trying to sell/return the one you have now.
What I did was measure the MAS totally with dial calipers and made up a couple drawings of a "flange" that didn't exist. Then I finally got all the dimensions, with radiuses for the input meeting the plate and all, and had it machined from a piece of scrap Aluminum. Looks sweet and hell and fits like a glove. Now if only my K&N would come in....

and btw, liquidlancer, I know exactly what the MAS does, and the O2 sensor as well. Sounds to me like you might be thinking the two are the same or something. In any case, go unplug your O2 sensor and start the car. No difference. Once it warms up, it'll probably give you a full rich condition, opposite of low fuel per part air. Also, unplug the MAS. Start the car. If it even starts, it'll probably just die as fast as it started.
If your post would be correct, that would mean that if an O2 sensor went bad and you didn't realize, the piston would basically weld itself to the cylinder wall on your drive to the parts store for a replacement sensor. Probably not the best engineering out there if that's the case. But anyways, good luck with the Lancer, even though it seems like you already know plenty

you cannot eliminate MAS. Car won't run for ***!! Make sure it is plugged in. If you want explaination call me and I can tell you about it. It measures air and thus tell engine how much fuel! Required equipment. OK? OK

Mirage
I ordered my intake off of e-bay. It was a K&N filter and some pieces that wouldn't work for a damn. The guy sent me, in the same box, an adapter for what I believe was an 99-01 mirage. I think that might work...hopefully it will
If you still have the adapter for a mirage, you might want to be a hella nice guy and take some measurements so he can see if it'll work. Better yet, if you know it fit the MAS on the Lancer, then just measure the part that the filter mounts to, and he can take it from there.
Also, ROCK, thank god someone else agreed with me cause I was starting to think Lancers might actually be set up the way LiquidLancer wrote

unfortunately i have someone what experience in this. I pretty much owned the first lancer in us around where i live...since i work at mitsu and got it exactly when it came out. Well i craved for an intake and there wouldnt be one for long... so me and my friend made a custom one... somewhere along the lines of making the adatpter to the MAS.... we messed it up
doh!! we were done and when i started the car ...engine light on...and the car idle'd like ****!!!!... LoL i ran my car for 4 months without the MAS plugged in... the results???....Car idles really ruff.... engines bogs out at certain rpms cause not enough fuel is or air or whatever... and BIG CONCERN.!! I GOT 200!! miles for a FULL TANK!!!.... oh yeah..and when u turn off your car... you can feel your whole car shake and wobbledity woobble and shake... so yeah... no more custom homemade crap like that for meps- only 12 more days till Kaminari Kit comes in
oh **** lol uhm the first post i put down about the o2 sensor i mens MAS sensor i wasnt thinking straight but i did mean MAS sensor as i was talking about in ym second post not realizing what i was typing
Diameter
Hey, sorry for the delay. I measured the actual adapter, coming in at 3.5 inches length, by 2.25 in heigth, varing at the ends for the screws. This on was on e-bay, but was listed as the one for the lancer witht the K&N filter, i think they are selling for 85.00 or so. I got that one, but the thing that got me figuring this out was the picture was listed as mirage.jpg. Got the marble rollin. The Diameter is the universal diameter of K&N filters, which i believe is 3 inches (Correct me if I'm wrong), and measure in, at 3 inches.
you can order K&N filters in just about any mounting diameter, length, taper, and all kinds of other things. I just got a custom one myself with a 2 3/4" mounting diameter. I think the numbers that are important here are the following
1.) Diameter where air filter meets flange
2.) Size of opening on MAF side of flange
3.) Check that the flange fits the Lancer's MAF
If those three match up from your measurements to the car in question, then it should be a go. Looks like there's enough room all around, so overall length and height don't mean too much.

"if you leave your o2 sensor off and your check engine light is on it is bad
do not run the car without an o2 sensor
if you run the car witch out the o2 your computer doese not add as tot he air fuel mixture therefor making the car run on air basicly witch make increadible amounts of heat making parts start to melt"
Not to flame on anyone in particular but, will all of you please reply using better english?
Running without the O2 sensor is not good. It's an easy way to blow your motor.
