Stalling Problem
Stalling Problem
Okay so this is my first post on this forum, please try to be nice.
I just purchased a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS 5-spd. It has 107k miles on it, previous owner was an older lady that just used it for commuting to work and back.
Everything is in pristine condition besides when im slowing down to make a turn or stop at a light that the RPM's fall really low (below 500) or the car stalls completely.
I changed the air filter because the previous one was old and dirty and replaced the spark plugs that had some corrosion (which i later found out it was caused by the type of oil used and fuel additives) after i changed these the car worked fine for about 20 miles and then it stalled again.
any help at all would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Sounds like the IACV, IAC, stepper motor or whatever you want to call it.
It screws into the throttle body, although I only have experience of 4G63 motor.
Takes about 15 minutes to replace on 4G63 and they usually fail around 100k...

PUll the plugs again and check condition - is one or more fouled already? I am thinking along the lines of 'you replaced plugs and good for 20 miles...' I assume it would have stalled within the 20 miles before the you changed the plugs - right?
If you are not having starting problems or misfire while running then I doubt it is plugs, leads or coils but at 100k it is worth changing them anyway.
Symptoms of stepper motor failure will be stalling when coming to a stop or low revs (idle)
The car will usually restart and will be fine if revs are kept high enough.
Sometimes it is fouled but usually the piston or the plastic around the piston is worn.
