Service Light & Break Switch Issue

I am not sure if anyone had this problem. This is on my 09 GTS.

I just had my break switch replaced because the service engine was on and my mechanic thought that was causing the Service Engine light was coming on because of the code P0703.

Now I brought it back again today and they said the break light switch is good but the service light keeps coming up. They say I should take it to the dealer to have them check all the connectors from the brake lights to the brake switch to see what is causing the service light to come on. Does anyone have any better ideas before I take it up there?

Seems like this process could take time and money in hours of work. But I can't keep having the engine light come one.

Suggestions?

Ok, well as long as the break light isn't coming on... Because BREAKING STUFF SUCKS!

Really though, do your brake lights work? If no, then the code is valid. If they do work, I would make sure the P0703 is a brake light switch code. Usually the "P" codes are reserved for powertrain, where body and ABS is a "U" code.

If the brake lights don't work, try replacing the bulb. Try the fuse. You can find the problem if you have the schematics and pin numbers of connectors, then you can volt drop all the wiring and make sure its good.

Good lick

Yeah the break lights work. They have brand new bulbs. The car didn't come with the manual and they want 60$ for a new one. Either way I don't have the diagram for the fuse box or the schematics. I have googled the code and every answer I get says is the break light switch. You don't happen the have the fuse box diagram of the schematic do you?

ARGH please help. Took it to dealer this morning and they "adjusted" the connections and the switch. No more than 8 hour later the damn light went back on. Has anyone had this problem before of even point me in the direction where to start?

well after 20 minutes of searching the service manual, I could not find this brake light code. I am sure it is buried in there somewhere.

PS it's a BRAKE, not break LIGHT

You need to pull you fuse panel open and there should be a nice diagram in there for you, but I can tell you that the fuse is fine. You need to volt drop or measure continuity of the brake circuit and wiggle all the wires to the back to find the poor connection. Maybe when a previous owner was install some audio system or something he ran a screw right next to the brake light wire and every time you hit a bump it grounds it out. Its a tricky situation but that's how I would diagnose it.

Good luck

Question.

I put LEDs in my brake lights. Do they need load resistors? If so that may be the problem. And If you could scan those 2 pages with the diagrams for the fuse box. That would be awesome.

^yes. That is the issue.

(You may want to include mods to the affected system when requesting help - makes it MUCH easier....)

Yeah I just thought of that this morning. Sorry about that. I will put in the resistors and try it when I get home.
