Test pipe install problem
Test pipe install problem
Was finally able to get the 4 bolts loose on the stock cat. Went to remove the O2 sensor and now that isn't going anywhere either. Sprayed a whole friggin can of PB Blaster on it and still nothin. So now I got half my exhaust virtually on the ground in the driveway and the stock cat still isn't off. Anyone got any ideas????
You should only be replacing the rear cat on the Lancer. Remove the first and you set off your CEL since the O2 sensing gear is after that first cat, but before the second. Not entirely sure though what you situation is though: vague. More details.
i used the apropriate open ended wrench and had my father stand on the cat and i just cranked down on it and it come off ive done it like3 times since then if you need to you can take the o2 out
go in the car remove the center console and behind the carpet by the like front of the car agains the center console there is a black and white plug and when you unplug it you can pull the whole thing down from the car this way you can take it out to move it thats what i did

Installed mine yesterday, had a lift with exhaust hangers and air tools though.
The o2 sensor was hard to get at and we had to use an angled wrench to get it started. Then we blazed and waited for the exhaust to cool down and simply unscrewed it. It was tougher than most bolts but BE A MAN DAMMIT.
after that air wrenches ran through the 4 bolts in no time and the pipe fit up well. The bolts Rob sent weren't quite long enough for some reason but no problem we sized up some new ones with same thread and longer length and was done wit it. Whole thing took 10 minutes of work time and 15 minutes to blaze while the exhaust cooled.

Not offended or anything, but it's a little different when you don't have a lift or air tools. I decided to leave the stock cat on until January when the car needs inspected again (need to order new gaskets anyways, the original ones are starting to go). By that time I might have enough saved up to get a turbo! Oh well. Congrats on the install Pimpson...shows how much of a difference having the right tools makes.
Just installed test pipe yest evening. I had an impact gun, but even that wouldnt turn off the nuts on the cat. I had to get the longest socket driver i could find and push it with my foot. One thing though, the bolts that come with it are too small?? I have heard of other people having this prob too. Anywhoo i went to my local hardware store and got some bigger bolts and everything went fine.
The only thing i still need to fix is now my exhaust sits a little too far to the right... has anyone had this prob and how have they fixed it? I was going to try and use some wire or something to pull the muffler over to center again
