02 lancer wont start after installing silencer
The FSM is available online for download and will only short you $15. If you really plan to keep the car, it has all the information on the cars in the next generation, and the 4G94 is in the 2002-2007 models. That's what I have and it has been the best money that I have spent on the car. I believe that it is listed by Bonanza or some other cliche-sounding website.
For the relay, ye one under the hood is good. I couldn't hear mine when I got it, either, the fuel pump, that is. The relays under the hood are all 4-pin boxes with two copper and two silver-colored contacts. Take two wires, one to each side of the battery, and hold one to a contact while you touch the others. If the wires get warm, you've got a NC (normally closed) contact that you've bridged. If nothing happens, you've got one of two things: a fried relay or a NO (normally opened) contact that you've bridged. If the relay is shot, I don't know whether the wires will get warm or not. If you hear a click from inside the relay, then it is good. If you try all the possible combinations on the relay like this and arrive at nothing, it is probably no good. They can be turned around in their place, so I doubt that they are designated anywhere as +\-.
While you are under the hood, check all of your harnesses. As beat-up as the engine bay looks to me at a glance, it isn't a long shot to say that there may be a few important ones that are loose. Loose harness on the MAF sensor will keep it from running, for instance.
(source: I used to work as a professional electrician, and these little tricks work wonders on low-voltage, low-amperage stuff like this. It just takes a second to figure out what's what.)

Thanks so much buddy, I really appreciate that information! Yes you are right you never know what plugs or pipes are barely connected when you get a car in the condition I did. I mean just look at the exhaust lol! Almost nothing left but the headers and a resignator...what a mess. Poor thing, I'm over joyed I saved it from further abuse and neglect. You mentioned MAF sensor? Yes I did in fact remove it and cleaned it with alcohol, re installed it and made sure the harness/plug was in good condition and cleaned also. The wires looked to be intact. But something tells me there's something else not securely connected somewhere there under the hood. The intake system really does concern me. As you can see the pipe is missing, and the filter box wont stay closed. That's not the worst of it, the air filter is actually missing too! Good night what in the world were the previous owner/owners trying to do to this Lancer? This Lancer's life will soon be transformed for the better.
Not a problem, man, but, I was doing some research the other day which led me to believe that cleaning the MAF is a bad idea. I haven't had any trouble with it, but, hey, what can you do but try it? I am also running without the intake chute off of the radiator support. It isn't a big deal, but your mileage will take a small hit. I average about 24/30.5 around here. If you really want to replace the sensors on the thing, the LKQ I frequent over in Greer has a 2004 ES that's all but perfect under the hood. It won't last long, for sure, but the sensors are all the same through all the 2.0L models. Intake chute can be made to fit, but it's about an inch too long. I can tell you that a straight-through resonator behind a Magnaflow HF cat is a good way to get a halfway decent sound. I'm running the resonator from a 2014 Fiesta Turbo, and the car sounds kind of good and has a nice rumble at idle. Just in case you want to fab up a good pipe. (It makes it turbo-ready, by the way!)
Fuse #8 under the dash (7.5A brown) energizes the coils of the fuel pump relays when the ignition switch is turned on...Fuse #15 (15A blue) under the hood, provides power directly to the fuel pump and fuel level sensor. When I reply to threads, I generally assume the person has checked the fuses before posting on the forum,
good luck!
also I have the entire factory service manual...comes in handy when you start chasing wiring faults

. Do you have pic of your Lancer you like to share? I'm interested
Well you certainly got me concerned about cleaning the MAF now. After reading so many articles over the years I had always had the impression cleaning the MAF specifically with alcohol was a good thing. Me too I haven't had any bad results nothing that I know of. I've done it on just about every car I've owned. Oh well lol.
I know the LKQ you're talking about have been there. Have been to a place called Reed's autoparts in Easily? I bought the driver side lower control arm for that OZ I had back in 09 and got it for $40 so cheap and they went to remove it and I asked if they could give me the long bolts and nuts to go with and bushings and they threw that in at no extra charge. That a great shopping experience I remember but that was about 6 years ago and haven't been back since I had that OZ
Thanks I really appreciate that clarification on the fuses! Right on point! Well because the car would not start right after my working on it I thought it was directly related to the work I had performed which was the exhaust so fuses were the last thing on my mind at the time I posted. I was really looking for some opinions about the backpressure. After a comment confirming what I was already thinking(that the car should at least start with the silenser) then I started thinking the problem was not exhaust related and had nothing to do with the work I performed. After paying the $822 at Goodyear another auto repair shop was the last thing on my mind lol joke. So that's what lead me to check other basic funtions and hence the pump/electrict and hense the fuses

. Very inspiring. Something about those Lancers that keeps me looking. Whether it's an Evo, Ralliart, OZ, ES or other models I just love them all. Something about them. It's the one line of cars I want to own. I just don't get the millionaires and billionaires buying million dollar cars that aren't as nearly exciting and sexy as a Lancer. That's just me feelings. If I have a billion dollars I would just figure out which year model body style I like most and go find that Lancer Evo. Yep I wouldn't even buy a brand new Lancer. That's how strongly I feel about them. I might deside to own at least 2 Lancers though lol and would still have loads of money left in the bank.
Yeah, using cleaner is supposed to be bad for our crappy little 501 MAF sensors. I cleaned mine when I first got it, several times, and haven't had an issue. That being said, the car will run with it disconnected. I don't know if that's an ECU issue or what, but I showed a guy I was helping one time and it would crank and crank and crank, not starting until we plugged the harness back in.
I haven't been to Easley yet, but there is a Mitsu dealer there that I might have to check them out at some point in the near future. It sounds like you've had a good history with people out in that area, though. I pull everything myself because it's cheaper and I can tear up the junkyard car however I have to if it means that I learn how to do it right on my car. Being on a tight budget is no excuse for a good car that's falling apart, ya know?
