this has happened ever since i got my 2k3 lancer oz(which was only 1-2 weeks ago). everything is great, but when i shift into drive, the car starts to vibrate and make a rattling sound with it. in neutral, park and reverse i don't have this problem.

thing is, when i start moving and giving her some gas, the shaking/vibrating goes away, only to reappear when i completely stop. its kinda annoying cause it sounds like my engine is running awful and it vibrates.

any ideas? worth seeing a mechanic over?

 

yeah get it checked out. if it gets worse after the warranties gone you sure wont want to be spending your own money especially if its something bad thats gone wrong. check things out soon before they get bad. just like your teeth. and the dentist.

i guess i'll bring it to a friend who is a mechanic, and if its major, i'll get mitsubishi to repair it.

curious if anyone else has had this problem

 

you bought your car used right? do you know the history of it, like what they did to it and stuff?

 

can't say that i do. see we picked it up at a nissan dealership while we were looking at maxima's, so there is no way to contact the original owner

 

Whats the rpm at when its shaking?

 

i just started having the same problem about 2 weeks ago. have u gotten it checked yet?

 

i brought it to my mechanic last week. he thinks its the engine mounts, but they are all brand new, so that shouldn't be the problem. he couldn't fix it yet, so i have to bring it back next week to hopefully get it fixed


i can see the problem: when i go from neutral or whatever into drive, the engine shifts about 1-2 inches backward, and then starts to rattle.

i just hope he can fix it

 

yeh when i had my car for about 2 weeks my dad was outside while i was backing out of my driveway and he told me he heard a click sound in the engine when i go in reverse so we check it and its the engine pulling inwards under the hood.. after like 2-3 day from hearing it we went back to the dealership to get my plates and told the salesman who sold me the car about the sound.. he didnt know what we were talking about so a tech guy came and looked at my engine while i put it in reverse... he told me its normal


but i'm getting some rattle noise from this (see picture) ... it rattles when in nuetral or in gear but while stepping on the break but when i'm in park theres no rattle... does it sound like ur problem too?

mine only rattles when in gear, and goes away once i start moving. when i'm sitting still in gear it will shake, but disappear as soon as i go neutral, reverse, or even park.

 

i got the same problem but dont know what it is let me know when u find out

 

got my car back today and everything is fixed(pretty cheap too). apparently what happened is that a transmission mount somehow got screwed up and somehow interfered with a bracket. basically, there was supposed to be a certain amount of clearance and there was none. the mechanic didn't go into detail to much, but he said he had one helluva time finding the problem. but once he found it, it was cake to fix

the car runs so great right now. at a stop sign it would shake so bad and getting it going in drive resulted in shakes and jolts, but now its smooth as ever. feels like its brand new
