Unhappy Braking noise

I have an '02 Lancer OZ. Just had the front brakes replaced with those new fangled metaliz brake pads. I expected some grinding noise since they aren't ceramic. But since I've had them done the front end is making a knocking noise when I do a gradual stop. When I slam them on, it obviously doesn't do it...just at slow stops. There is no pumping action from the brake...the only thing I am hearing is sound. I've had the thing into two garages and they tell me there is nothing wrong with the brakes. I took it to Mitsubishi and they wanted me to gamble $85 to even look at it (even though they were driving it for my oil change anyway). I'm close to just pulling the wheels off myself and inspecting everything. I wish I had more info to share on it, but maybe someone knows the right questions to ask me so I can figure out what this damn noise it!
PLEASE HELP!

The only thing I can suggest, is put some different pads on and see if it makes a difference.

hmmmmmm sounds like you need to get yourbrake drums smoothed out (forgot the technical term) whenever you are doing brake job its always a good idea to do it.
