Knocking Trans
Knocking Trans
I have a 2002 OZ stick. (just bought it 4 weeks ago)
(58000 miles, almost worn out clutch) -still got a good deal.
I'm just learning how to drive stick.
I know that the 1st gear and the 2nd have a lot of stopping power.
So everytime I'll try to start going I put in the 1st gear and then let go off the
clutch. 3000RPM let go off the gas and at the same time press on the clutch.
In that moment I hear knocking souns comming out of my trans.
The same thing with the 2nd gear.
Do I have to press on the clutch faster???
I don't let go off the gas and then press the clutch.
You know I do both at the same time.
Maybe is the pressure plate?
Help? Anyone?
Oh and when are you actually wearing out the clutch?
I know on of the times is when half clutch full gas.
Any others???
thx

Guru drives automatic. He may or may not know.
On an organic clutch you should be slipping it (letting it out slowly until it grips). From your description it sounds like you're just dumping it (letting off the clutch quickly).
You should probably NOT be using first gear to stop. It's a non-synchronized gear, and you could very easily be putting unecessary stress on your gears. As for the clunk, I'd recommend taking it to the dealer unless you've done serious modifications to the car. If this is something that happens all the time, perhaps something is broken. Do you have trouble getting the car into any gears?
Your foot movement should be as follows when shifting:
I don't know if any of that helps. If it feels like you have a problem though, you probably do. I'd say to take it to the dealership, but they aren't obligated to warranty clutch issues. This may be tranmission related rather than clutch, but I'm not certain. Perhaps something's wrong with your synchro or throw out bearing.

Your foot movement should be as follows when shifting:
- Right foot off accelerator
- Left foot depresses clutch
- Right hand upshifts with clutch still full depressed.
- Left foot comes off clutch (gradually, especially in first gear).
- Right foot back on accelerator after clutch is fully released.
