Evo v.s. R32
Evo v.s. R32
2nd part of my posts. Anyone have a run in or have an R32 as a second car and could tell me how they compare it to the EVO. I know everything about R32s, ive driven them millions of time, sold a few and overall HATE THEM, I honestly like the way my 01 GTI VR6 drives much better for some reason. Ive also sold EVOs and driven them many times. Since I own a GTI and will be getting something soon (either EVO or S4) I need to know if any of you guys STOCK again have ran against any R32s that were either stock or modded. I hate magazine times, im looking for real like 0-60, 30-80,80-120 experiences. This is strictly performance, NOT comfort, NOT styling, JUST SPEED. Thanks mods
I know i haven't but i have seen some of them up here at the track and seen some evos up at the track.
R32 average ET's were @ 15.8
and average Evo was @ 14.25-14.5
P.S. these are at high elevation. (mile high Colorado air sucks)

lol i was with him /\ thier watching those andthe 14.5 on the evo were basically completly stock and not great drivers we have quite a few with exhaust safcII and boost controllers running low 13's and when we say all the vw's thier was really nothing below like a 14.8 and if it was it was the old full race bugs etc.... their was a vr6 supercharged the guy said he spent a lil over 14,000 on the under hood work and ran a 14.9 and none of the r32,s were close to a 14.9

I haven't been impressed so far with the power of the R32. About a month before I got stage 2 there were two guys in an R32 trying to get me to race on the San Mateo bridge. Everytime there was an opening in traffic they'd punch it and then slow down right away when they saw that I didn't follow suit. That car was loud...definately louder than stock so I'm guessing it had some exhaust work done to it, at a minimum. My only mods were stage 1 and a 3" catback exhaust. My wife was screaming at me not to race because I already have a ticket from going eastbound on that damn bridge...but I really wanted to wipe the big $hit-eating off the face of the R32 driver. We got down to about 60mph...I dropped it into 3rd...blew off once and then he took off...I put the pedal to the metal and passed him before I shifted into 4th. By 110mph I'd put a good 3-5 car lengths on him as I was continuing to pull. He pulled up next to me and gave me a thumbs up but my wife tore me a new one.
When it comes to power, I think the R32 and WRX are pretty comparable once you eliminate the terrible boost lag on the Subie. Brake boost the WRX and they're neck and neck. At least that's my opinion.

if your looking at the R32's and the Evos out of the two the evo is more of a sport car. I am not downing the R32 i am not saying that the R32 can't beat an Evo but out of these two cars the Best fo rthe money and over all performance would be the Evo. stock vs stock it is not ever comparible. Evo all the way on the stock side.

Also figure that the Evo is deep deep deep into the 13's in the 1/4 mile. The '05 RS may even hit 12's. On the other hand the R32 is a mid to high 14 second car. The Evo outperforms the R32 in everything except interior quality and creature comforts. But in all honesty, who buys an Evo to show off the fit and finish of the interior? It's a performance car above all else. The R32, in my estimation, is an aggressive compromise of performance and luxury. It's not nice enough to be considered a true luxury car, and it doesn't perform well enough to be considered a factory racer like an Evo, STi, M3, S4, etc.

R32 is a nice car, very refined and sporty. Handles well too... my evo felt like a jerky powered spartan econobox when I got back into it.
The only problem with the R32... is that it looks like every other golf on the road.

I would like to chime in as I just recently switched from a Tornado Red R32 to a Weightless White EVO RS.
Performance wise there is no question, the EVO will walk all over the R32. In straight lines and cornering...but don't get me wrong, the R32 is no slouch. It's just that the EVO is so much more. That is why I traded in my R for an RS.
Interior there is no question, the R32 is even nicer than an G35 inside and the steering wheel is the best steering wheel I have ever held.
Exhaust note on the R32 is amazing after doing a free mod. It would have people asking me what I had done to it, a nice deep gurgle.
Looks - Me I really liked hatchbacks so the R32 looks better to me, also all the girls I know liked the looks of the R32 over the EVO. My fiancee obviously liked the ride, but also the creature comforts...ie ... heated seats, leather, pwr windows, and noise dampening.
But a big problem w/ the R32 is the lack of aftermarket selection. There are a few, but because there are so few prices are high. EVO has great aftermarket selection. R32 is very linear in power deliver which I miss at times and it handles extremely well.
