Forcedfed Turbo Elise!!

Hello Guys,
Check out our latest project undergoing fabrication at this time, a turbocharged Lotus Elise! http://elisetalk.com/forums/showthre...&threadid=8488

We can't wait to strap the car down to the dyno and start tuning some torque and power into this 1900 pound go-kart. Time attack car perhaps?

IMHO, turbocharging that engine will destroy the whole character and balance of the whole car. There is such a thing as too much horsepower for such a tight car, but I could be terribly wrong.

As someone who strongly considered and threw out an offer for the "Flyin' Miata", I beg to differ.

I've been wondering who would be crazy enough to build the first boosted elise. Keep us posted!

I would have to disagree after driving the car. It is under torqued at anything below 6200 RPM and above that it is ok. Another 70 pound feet of torque and 70 wheel horsepower will transform the car into a wickedly entertaining drive. It is no fun to have to go from 6th gear to 3rd gear on the freeway at 65mph to make the car respond like it looks. My auto Civic has better pick up at 65mph than the Lotus has in 4th gear at the same speed! We are striving to get full boost (6psi) by 3000 RPM's to enhance the low end of the car (117 pound feet of torque at the wheels @6200 RPM!) and also to extract another 70 wheel horsepower at higher revs. See attachment for the dyno graph of a stock Elise.

Brett, it sounds like you're barking up the right tree. When the S2000 came out, there was a lot of talk of a mild turbo for it - in other words, a tiny turbine that would spool by 2500 RPM and blow off around 6000-7000 (when the peakiness of the motor compensated). But every turbo that came along was a giant turbine that didn't reach full boost until 6500-7000 RPM - when the engine was already doing its thing.

Glad you're taking the driveable torque improvement over big HP. Should be a wild ride when done!

That is exactly our thought as well. Most of the turbo/blower applications on the S2000 mimic the peaky delivery of the stock motor, just more power above the V-Tec switchover. We are hoping to maximize the torque gains at around 3500 rpm's and make the car feel as though it has a 3.0 liter V-6 in the trunk, without the weight of course!

Hello,
We are currently working on the production kits and we should have pricing and availability in the next 2-3 weeks. We are very excited about the project and look forward to posting the results in a few weeks.

Yeah, despite my reservations, your concept for the buildup is sound . I would be interested to see how it turns out. Good Luck!
