If you are concerned about image, then yes, the Miata may not be the car for you. If you don't require a car to feel good about yourself, and want something that's fun, then it's a great car.

I still don't understand why everyone wants to drag race EVOs. Seems like a waste.

It will be really interesting when the performance upgrades start to hit the streets for both these cars.
How is the quality of the Solstice?

It is true that the "Miata" name is gone. This new car is just called the MX-5. IMHO, anyone who calls a lightweight 2 seater with near perfect weight distribution a "chick" car is ignorant. I owned a '99 for a few years, and out of all of the cars I have owned, it is the first one that I have ever missed. That car was extremely fun to drive, even with the measly 140 or so horses.
My dad has a '94 with the "R" package and it is a blast to drive. No, it's not a rocket, but the handling of the car is the fun part. I see the low horsepower as an added benefit, because it keeps you out of trouble. You don't need 600hp to enjoy a drive.
A good analogy would be women -- some of the most fun I've had has been with A and B cup chicks.

this car is awesome. but i like the fact that they are going to be calling it just the MX-5, sounds more sporty. put a supercharger or other type of goodies on this little bad boy and this car will own all sorts of cars on a road course.
like i said before i can not wait till someone starts modding these things

Edit: Just checked the last JD Powers release I could find and only Suzuki scored worse than Mazda. Link

Stock it makes about 180 crank hp, I dont see why 230+ whp wouldnt be possible on that car.
A SCCA events this is the car I see the most. And those NA Maitas are quick, and can handle great.
You know what I think I am going to go test drive one tonight for sh#$ and giggles. (and no I am not 40, nor do I have a combover, or a shrunken pecker)

Man, there is really not to many cars more fun than a Miata with the top down driftin' corners. Out of the box these car can out handle most sports cars. With a susupention setup, they are unreal. They are a bit under powered, but super fun.
Let the peeps who think miatas are for girls or whatever think it. I'm pretty sure a tweaked miata can take down and whip an evo/sti/gtr/itr/ctr in tight back roads, twisted mountain passes, etc. anything with a lot of twists.
