2006 Mx-5

I work at Williamson mazda in lumberton NC and last night we got the our first 06 MX-5. we got the limited edition one in, and its th 6-speed. this car looks more like a sprots car then the last ones, and its prett darn fast. Its not as fast as my evo but its so much fun to drive. i can't wait to see some people mod the little car.

oh yea by the way if your 6'3'' like i am you can fit comfortably in this mx-5 unlike the last body style.

But it is still a miata. I know they handle well and go fast but it is still the car for either chicks or 40+ years olds with combovers and shrunken d**ks.

or a car for club racers or autoXers or those that want an inexpensive true sports car. Typically only uninformed people bash miatas as chickie cars. Those that have seen what a Miata can do on a road course would never say those things.

It's because most people buy cars for show or to drag race them. Only minority cares what it can really do on a road course and that also require skill only minority has.

i think it looks a lot better this time around. and all that crap about being a "chicks car" means nothing except if you have one you're pretty much guaranteed that chicks will like it.

Wait, has anyone tried to tune the turbo version yet?

Its a 1.8 L 16V, 8.5 psi, I dont know turbo type or size, and it has a tiny FMIC. But would that react like our cars to a TBE, MBC, fuel pump, larger FMIC, and flash?

Stock it makes about 180 crank hp, I dont see why 230+ whp wouldnt be possible on that car.

A SCCA events this is the car I see the most. And those NA Maitas are quick, and can handle great.

You know what I think I am going to go test drive one tonight for sh#$ and giggles. (and no I am not 40, nor do I have a combover, or a shrunken pecker)

I had the opportunity to see one over the weekend and compare it to the Pontiac Solstice (sp?) that happend to be there. I must say that I really like the looks of the Pontiac better and this is coming from someone that has owned 2 Miatas. It will be really interesting when the performance upgrades start to hit the streets for both these cars.

the big defference is that the older mx-5 need some exterior modifications to look like it had some *****. this one is bigger all the way around, it looks more like a sports car. it doesn't look like a chicks car anymore. thats why i like it.

The new MX-5 is very tempting, and if I could have more than one car, I'd get one. Two-seat convertibles are a lot of fun. I don't think I could live with it as my only car.

We, as in Wellesley Mazda in Boston actually sold our first 06 MX-5 about 2 months ago. Our customer basically just came in and paid in full including the tax, and registration fees and gave us a check even before he saw the car. The car he did buy was an Silver with black interior, 6 speed. It was not a Grand Touring, but it did have the sport suspension package, which includes the Bilstein shocks etc... We have 2 left in our lot, for now. Both are grey, one with the GT package and the other without. The GT package one has HIDs, Tan leather, bose stereo, suspension package as well as a few other goodies... When compared to the 05's, the 06 MX-5 is definitely a better car. It drives better, accelerates better, bigger car, handles better... and for a similarly equipped car, it is cheaper than the 05's.

Hey James, what do you do at Williamson Mazda?

Interesting - so its going to be a 2.0 L with 170 hp. Is there talk of a Mazdaspeed version coming out too?

It would be great if someone took an Evo engine and ploped it down in a Miata - now that would go like a someofabi%^#.

+1

I heard a rumor that Mazda was going to drop the "Miata" moniker and just call it the MX-5 (because of the feminine/wuss stereotype). Anyone know if this is true?
