i wanted to get my hands on one of these for the longest time . . some guy i used to work with had a conquest TSI (purple color) and i used to drive in it . . . amazing car if u ask me - - we could go around the corner and because it was real wheel drive, just fish tail all over the place . . i tried buyin it from him many times, but no such luck . . . . if it was me, i would try to get it fixed up

The car itself was pretty cool, in looks and interior it was ahead of it's time... But the fact that it is such a cow, makes it a bad deal for real performance... But if you wanna be different, you can put a 4g63-t in it... That would be awesome.. A friend of mine totally re-built one from the bottom up (EVERYTHING).. And the car is awesome, and unique!! But of course, it takes lots of $$$$

The 4g63T swaps are fairly common esp in the UK and AU. Same for the 4g6x Cordias.

Jonas, I take it you friend stuck with the stock RWD tranny?

Starions own. There is a immaculate red one for sale around here. No visible mods as far as I can tell, but the paint is good, the interior is clean and it's got new shoes on. Would be good to talk to the owner. I'll also third any arguments about the terrible head gasket. Every Starion/Conquest forum I've read has had some awful stories about them going. Kinda interesting how much low end torque a turbocharged truck engine gets ya!
