04 STi, 281 whp, 303 ft lbs - 17 psi + down pipe

The first STi that I know of was just dynoed Tuesday.

Bone stock it was pulling 250whp

With a manual boost controller (17.6 psi) and a new downpipe the STi made 281 whp and 303 ft lbs of torque. Pretty good for two basic mods and only 17 psi boost.

those are nice numbers. But becareful boosting too much above stock. There's a reason why subaru only put 14.5psi boost. From what I heard, the wrxs doesn't like high boost too much without fuel management. I Know that Sti is way better but rasing boost without fuel management is a no no.

Whoa, with those mods the torque jumps higher than the hp rating.. That's wierd.. Me no likey the STI.. It looks like the parts were just thrown on..

I have to stop you on that one. Subaru in the past has left plenty of room for more boost. The WRX runs very rich. The standard 227hp WRX which
comes with only 13.5 psi boost easily handled 16.5 - 17psi on the stock setup. I know because thats what guy have been running for more than 2 years without any problems. I ran 16.5 psi boost for about 8 months on my basically stock WRX before moving up to a larger turbo.

About the STi
I was not the one doing the dyno testing. You can go to
www.clubwrx.net for full details. Go to the STi forum. The guy doing the mods on his STi seems to be very knowledgable.

I am running between 16.5 and 17 psi with no boost controller of any kind. My car has been in this configuration for over a year with no problems whatsoever. Other than the raised boost, my car is 100% stock engine wise.

The new STI USPEC isnt even similar to JSPEC. It has a 2.5 liter USDM and JDM has 2.0. Weird

The boost level of the STI may also be limited by turbo efficiency as the stock STI turbo is small according to a couple of STI tuners. I don't know what the limits are, just pointing out that the turbo is not a 20G. (DSM terms )

Speedlimit..

Yeah, the problem with running over 16lbs on a WRX had to do with the turbo being completely inefficient over that. The STi has a small turbo as well so running much higher boost without replacing it doesn't make sense.

Jonasan50, what do you have against torque?

Now the car is up to 301 whp with just a boost controller, down pipe and intake.

I believe the IHI turbo they used in the US STi is more efficient than the TD-04 fitted to the WRX, but since they limit the upper end boost level anyway they don't care about top end efficiency.

I upgraded the top mount to a used STi top mount from a 2001 STi and I am able to boost (on the TD-04) much more efficiently past 6000 RPM. It's not a whole world of difference, but it is an improvement. The STi with a slightly bigger turbo and a more efficient I/C should be able to hold the boost level high all the way to redline. I wonder what the boost curve on the STi is like? If it is pretty much the same as the WRX, then we definitely have a lot of room to go.

250whp?

interesting... the highest that shiv got was ~220whp.

the thread

what dyno were you using? it would be nice to get comparable number, cuz i seriously doubt that it actually puts down 30 more hp.

The Evo (stock) put down about 180-190 on Shiv's dyno, and the STi (stock) put down about 220 on the same dyno, so it put out about 30 whp more than the strongest stock Evo...give or take a few hp...actually, the stock STi made more hp than the stage 0 Evo...
