Question to Honda Boys...
Whats so great about the Integra Type R? I've never driven one and don't see why it's so legendary to Honda boys. I would see it legendary if it had like 280whp stock and ran 12s. Is it just fun to drive or something? I see why the NSX is legendary but not the ITR...i was never a big honda fan. I just dislike the fact that all thse street Civics and Integs have to strip the crap outta their interior just to run stock evo times with swapped motors and if they beat evos they go around bashing on it or any other turbo car when we retain stock weight. I don't think a fast "street" car should be running 1 seat with no sound deadening and no carpet
ITRs are decent handling cars but they arent that great....195 hp...not bad for a small car but like andrew (hobie Kopek) said "ahhhhh vtec....all of the lag, none of a turbo...its like waiting for bad sex"

+1 here i have an ls v-tec honda integra and i tell you it feel fast but and heandaling evo or sti are way better! i have seen feww people geting out of the road trying to keep up with me,i don't even stop to see if they are all right ! That is what the get for been f stupid i love my integra 4 years ans has vever broke on me,also i stop spending money on it and got the EVOi love it so much i have even spend few nights in it
I'll just make a few comments about the Type R from my experience with one.
The Type R is not a stripped "race" car like some people like to make it out to be. It has some premium interior touches. What is does have is less sound deadening, which makes it a little louder inside, like an Evo or STi.
Also, the Type R has a limited slip diff, which on an autocross makes it come out of the turns better, much better than my RSX did. When comparing them side by side, my RSX felt less connected.
Also, the Type R has a unique rear suspension, which the Civic guys can not recreate.
When you combine the: Limited slip diff, rear suspension, re-rated shocks and springs, specific wheels with the right tires, a few chassic tweaks, and lightening, the Type R was a great car. It was fun to drive, fast, and well balanced. In a way, my Evo reminded me of the Type R, just a lot faster and a lot....more.
As for the Honda guys that try to build them out of their Integras and Civics, they are not Type Rs.
As for the Type R comparison to the Evo (and the STi
)......well if the Honda drivers could get their hands on an Evo (or the STi
), they would.

In addition to the good description of mechanical upgrades Racer RS X gave, there is the limited factor as well. It was a limited edition car, specifically aimed at performance enthusiasts. The first edition even had A/C as an option only. There wasn't much out at the time that compared to it.
I considered buying one from a friend who put too many points on his license. After driving it, I was impressed that it drove very neutral for a fwd car. It wasn't particularly fast, quick yes. The handling made up a lot for the lack of torque down low. The upper end was cool, sounded great, but not enough for me.
Some honda folks put the type-r on a pedestal. It is a cool car for multiple reasons, like the S2000. Another car you might need to drive to appreciate.
so basically the reason its praised is cuz its a limited edition racer version of the regular Integra right? Honda fanatics (such as some of my buddies) claim that its the greatest car ever made. Funny story..before I sold my 03 evo i had a buschur stage1 close to 2. He claimed that he could smoke me in the Type R bone stock(he weighs about 200lbs) from any type of race besides a dead stop. I mean he said he would DESTROY me on the hwy

I think the big thing about the integra type R (or any type R for that matter) is that 1. they were rare and JDM and 2. they can be made to be damn quick for a honda. I'm not a honda fan by an stretch, I hate the general lack of torque (for godsake my lancer has more torque now than the S2000) but I can respect some of the ITRs out there. In the February issue of Import Tuner there was a 550 hp Integra Type R that was simply beautiful, if I can find a link I'll post it up.
