Only BMW can do it - M3 or M3CSL
BUT only when is dry...
No Z3M, M5...
I can post here results from track day
fastest ¨normal¨ car was Evo IX then bunch of STI, Turbos...
Fastest fas Caterham then MC12 and Carrera GT, GT3RS...

sorry, uphill. AS STATED, it was a simple argument that came about so asking here to see what other car enthusiasts on these forums can bring to the table. Geez people..i guess comparisons are wrong nowadays. Only BMW i've driven is a 3series and a Z4, i've never driven an STi but when i had a 03 evo, the steering response and the way it would take corners (even on cheap tires) was superb compared to the BMWs.

And it's kind of hard to compare to STIs simply because those car came *fixed* up stock.

yeah, but the M's are *fixed* up versions of the regular Z, 3, 5 and 6 series.

oh yeah, that's a sick car, but very pricey for the so-so performance. Not really much faster than an Evo or Sti to 60, but I'm sure it handles as well as anything out there...

on the Top Gear Stig lap times, the alpina z8 and the STi WR1 were neck and neck:
45 BMW Alpina Z8 1.29.0
46 Subaru Impreza STi WRX WR1 1.29.4

Full list:

http://www.topgear.com/content/tgonb...times/thestig/

edit: for reference, the standard stock Evo VIII was a hair faster at 1.28.9

in this case. i dont think many can. you'll need a car that has equal weight distribution to do good. RWD is nice but it can also break loose if not driven correctly...but then again, it's RWD so you can drift it through the corners.

BMWs weight a **** load and the evo/stis can pull away through the turns and stuff due to their tight, low end gearing. as long as the evo/sti stays in their boost range (and doesnt drop below) i think the bmws cant win

maybe the z3M coupe with the e46 motor I would say should have a great chance on keeping up with a stock sti or evo on a track.
