I love the E30, as it's the purist of the bunch, and just one hell of a cool car, but it's not out-handling an STi/STI or an Evo. Sorry. Throw some mods into the mix, and you've got yourself a race.

E36 M3s are decent handlers but I surely don't shake in my sneakers at the mention of one. It wouldn't matter how close those turds came to handling as well as an Evo or an STi/STI, because midway through the corner, mash the throttle of the Evo or STi/STI and that'll be curtains for the E36. The AWD will just pull the Evo and STi/STI right through the corners, leaving the M3 trying its best to grab traction, tail wagging.

i'd have to disagree. BMWs are awsome. but not unstoppable

i concur the RWD wont be able to keep up with AWD in the corners since they'll lose traction if they push it too much. the only way a bmw will pass the evo is if a drifter drives it...and they wont like it because BMWs weigh as much as tanks. lol

Granted I don't work at a BMW Dealership but I do work in sales at a Porsche/Audi/VW Dealer and have driven many BMW products at our competitive driving classes and schools we're sent to. Also haven driven the STi I would say that both the new M3 and 335 series would be a handful for a well driven STi. The power delivery of the BMW's is much better throughout the powerband and even though they are RWD they are very driver-friendly as far as controling the tail as the vehicles are VERY predictable. Also, the BMW's have variable-assist power steering which will provide the driver a lot more feel and manoueverability than that of the STi. I noticed this was, "on gravel," which is pretty strange as you're comparing a company (Subaru) with a reputable WRC heritage against a company (BMW) who runs LeMans/RolexGT/Ect. Ect... I think all things being even the BMW could stand side by side with the STi...and at the end of the day of driving the BMW driver is going to be much happier than the STi driver.

Just my opinion...

Upstate is right, the newer M3's and the 335 will be close. The Z4 3.0 is in no way going to be able to even be close in this competition, it would lose in the straights as well as the corners. I really think the E46 would struggle because of the weight and rear wheel drive. My old 350z would hang VERY well with most M3's, but it didn't handle anywhere near as well as the STI and nowhere near the Evo.
