The s2k is truly superior
the article
Yeah, if you mean width.
Ha, well I thought the article was pretty funny, and yeah it seemed to me like they just did it to get attention. Personally the s2k was never even on the table when I was checking out cars, being pigmentally challenged and all I have no use for a convertible.
But the SL55 would be a nice commuter...

For a guy that claims to be a high-performance driving instructor, he sure doesn't know much about cars and motorsports! He goes on and on about how the S2000 is a purpose-built race car but doesn't seem to be aware of the Evo's long and illustrious motorsports career. When has an S2000 ever won a race?
And since he doesn't respect race cars that are built on an existing production chassis, I guess he has no respect for the Integra Type R, BMW E30 M3, and Porsche GT3-RSR either?
As an instructor myself, I'm surprised at his attitude. All the instructors I know love and respect all cars. I would never make fun of an S2000 or a 350Z or a Mazda RX8 or any other car. Not even a Corolla.

I agree 100%! Purpose built racecars aren't designed on a convertible chassis...not in the 21st century anyway.
(None of what I have to say is a knock against the S2000 and applies to the compared cars stock for stock.) One of the other stupid remarks he made, was "if you're going to spend $60k, get a Corvette but you still won't be quite as fast on the track" (paraphrasing). I owned a C5 Z06 and the Corvette will mop most tracks clean with a stock S2000. What the S2000 MIGHT be able to gain in the corners will be squashed on the straightaway by the Corvette. It EASILY out accelerates a stock S2000 with laughter. Honestly, I'm sure the S2000 handles very well in the corners, but what the Corvette (especially the Z06) or Evo can accomplish in capable hands is undeniable by anyone that has pushed them hard.
He also said that in the S2000 he could stay full out on the gas through the turns, but when he tried it in the Evo, it would spin...well no **** dummy, the Evo has more power.
He could stay flat out in the S2000 because it's a less powerful car. When driving, you have to learn "moderation". A car that has any real power cannot be pushed throught the turn at full throttle unless you use a higher gear which would reduce torque, which honestly is what he probably should have done. It is not necessary to downshift the Evo as often as you would need to do in the S2000, and keep engine at 6500 rubber shreading RPM through the turn, since the Evo has a much wider and lower powerband than the S2000. If this guy was as good of a driver as he said he was, he could harness the Evo's power more productively.
