Would you give up your Evo for ...?
A 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 ? Why and why not?
This american muscle is rated at 500hp@6000 rpm and 480 lb/ft @4500 rpm. V8 power, 5.4 liters, 32 valves, supercharged and intercooled.
Is this car faster than the Evo IX? I know it's way faster but heavier too > 4040 lbs.
What do you guys think?
And have you guys ever race a previous generation Shelby before? If so how did you fare against it?

No way. It's probably excellent in a straight line, but the handling and braking are probably questionable. The weight means it won't be nearly as maneuverable as an Evo, and it won't stop as quickly (even if it does those brakes would be working overtime with that weight).
Also, from my experience, live rear axle cars are scary. When turning on a smooth surface it's ok, but hit a bump mid-turn and watch out. - Especially with so much torque. Live axles can be tuned very well, but they're just not very forgiving.
As far as faster in a straight line, I would imagine so considering that it has a better power to weight ratio. An Evo would have an advantage during launch considering we put the power down through four wheels. Hooking up 480 lb/ft of torque on two wheels means lots of wheelspin. Still, there's nothing like doing a burnout in a car with a big, roaring V8.
Old-school American muscle vs. sophisticated Japanese tuning. I respect the American cars - my Dad has a '67 Shelby GT-500. The sheer power is amazing, but getting it to turn and stop isn't so easy. And no, I've never raced him.

i have a stock BR350IX#005 and would smoke a GT500 in every performance catagory there is. I paid 37 out the door w/ssl,how much is a GT500 if you can get one? At least 5-10k over sticker for sure making it close to 60k i bet depending on the dealer. I know they are completely different cars but its nice to know my little 4 banger(LOL) would smoke a Shelby GT500. 0-60 off the floor on the BR is 3.9,qrt. mile 12.5 or better at 110mph, top speed should be close to a vett (186).. Dont get me wrong i love muscle cars. I,ve had 2 camaro,s. A 67 RS.01 SS,69 chevelle SS plus a few others. Besides my evo i have a 63 dodge 440(450hp,over 500ft.lbs.trq. that i have had for 17 years now. I plan on buying a dodge challenger when they come out in a year or two(the 425hp version of course. But i,m not letting my evo go as it would even spank the crap out of that challenger. BTW if i would trade my evo it would be for a yellow or red C6 ZO6. I,m a loyal evo guy but not crazy.(LOL)

I hate to say it but I think that I would take the Shelby. Style, Power, Bad Assnes (is that a word LOL). I love my Evo, love everything about it. But Damn, Those Shelby's are sweet. Plus, not many of them around.
