You should seriously consider a 05 or 06 Subaru Legacy GT, they are turbo charged and it is basically a luxo STI...... same motor just a few minor differences, but with basically a STI turbo swap (about $600), tbe, and reflash and that car will move and still be AWD. My friend has one and it gets up and goes. He also auto-x and does really well at the track! Insurance will be tons cheaper. I had an SRT-4 and hated it (sold it with in 2 months), wheel hopping little ******! AWD is the way to go!!! Just my two cents!
That's true - a turbo Subaru is a pretty sweet alternative. I had considered that until I decided to get an Evo.
As for the RX8 and other rotary flooding issue - yes, it is known to happen if you turn the engine on and turn it off within a few moments before it gets warm. I've personally never had it happen to me. This can all be read about on the 'net.
As for a ton of recalls.. no. Two major recalls. One to install a heat shield around the exhaust near the fuel tank to prevent meltdown (rotary exhaust is super hot) and one to replace the engine if it failed a specific emission test.
It's not a perfect or most reliable vehicle but it is unique and very fun to drive.
But yeah... Subaru is a good choice too.
