if you are gonna be driving it everyday and worried about insurance... i would look at srt-4...cobalt ss supercharged and the new mazdaspeed 3... all of them are cheap and fun as hell to drive and easy to mod. I work for Chevy and just did a GM stage two upgrade on a ss... it was a pulley, injectors, intake, and a ecu re-flash all under warranty b/c it was all GM and that thing pulled hard as hell...

dont start off with an evo...buy something slower first. Learn how to drive that and handle that power. Then for your next car buy an evo. Not only will you be a better driver by that point and more capable of handling the evo without killing yourself, but also you will be in a more financialy sound position to buy an evo. Evos are expensive, but their upkeep including tires, maintanance, fuel, and insurance is where the real suprise expense lies.

Since you have $20k to spend, i would say get the Civic (Around 13-15k) Then use the rest for mods, But dont go too CRAZY, cause remember its a Civic, and your probably going end up trading it for an Evo eventually. TRUST ME

this is what i would do, save your money and keep the car you have, and if you dont have one just go and buy a car that is cheap enough for you to pay off... quickly. Finally keep going to school dont worry bout cars till you atleast have you own house, take an loan out against the house and buy your self an evo...

whitersevo I want to go with your suggestion but i want something more reliable and faster...

for my job im a AGM assistant general Manager.... so i think financing a 07 civic si wouldnt be that hard for me..

What about a GTI? IMHO they are way nicer than a civic and have good potential being a factory turbo car. Even with just a tune they make good gains.

Here's another tip, but it is just my personal opinion:

Buy used if you can, especially if you're planning on getting out of the car within 5 years. Cars drop value way too much after you drive off the lot to value buying new. I'm not saying buy a 2003 or even 2005 (insert car here)... But look around for a used car with the same qualties you want that is in good shape, nothing beats an '06 car with a few thousand miles on it.

Regardless, I second the comment for a Mazdaspeed 3, Cobalt SS, SRT-4. The '07 Lancers are pretty freakin hot too.

get a RSX, or TSX, those k series motors can be beasts with bolt-ons. the honda team races the TSX over the RSX cuz the TSX has double wishbone all around better suspension. but both have the K series engine which is nice stock, and responds well to mods.

let us know what you decide!

SI, SRT's are fun, but you will always be looked on as a punk. I dont know what it is, but the cheapness and speed of that car allows young kids to afford them, and they cast a bad image on the car unfortunatly. Also, I am 18, rushed into buying a use evo as my second car, I love this thing, but only working part time with about a 30k a year income, even with no other bill but insurance and the payment and my cell, its still a pain to make. If I had any sense I would sell it, but im already hooked and cant get rid of it now. Plus I just dropped 3600 on a clutch and shep tranny, so now this baby is mine for lyfe.
