well i guess i would be the most qualified person to answer this! I live in california (So cal) and my local enterprise rents elises (of course it's the Enterprise-Rent-An-Elise special. Me and my friend both picked one up. Scheduled a day to Angeles Crest Hwy (where they belong). Had the cars for 2 days. (me and him both had one). So the cars that went with us are:

1 STi (unknown mod, but it is tracked)
1 Evo 9 Mr (factory)
2x S2000 (light mod)
1 350z (factory)
1 G35 Coupe (light mod)
2x Lotus Elise (enterprise enabled TC to be on ALWAYS)

Obviously everyone was manual and had 6 gears
I left my RX-7 (FD) at home for the elise thrill

Acceleration felt VERY linear, and it definitely felt faster than the S2000 (having driven both)

WOW. I love that Elise. I NEVER really drove it with the top up, ALWAYS top down. LOVED it. Adrenaline at it's best. So what if it's not the fastest car in a straight line, but once you hit the corners at 80-90 mph with out even squeeking, you're in for something special. I LOVED it on Angeles Crest. My friend (who had the other elise) said it was better than our local Six Flags amusement park (Magic Mountain). The car is such a thrill! I don't need anymore power, it just feels right. Sure interior feels cheap, everything about the car feels cheap, it's hard to get in, but the drive.... the drive... my god i miss it THE MOST. i'm 6'1, my friend is 6'4" I'm about 200lbs, and he's about 210 lbs. We had to adjust to the car for a bit (push the seat ALL the way back) but it's nothing we didn't get use to in a few hours. We drove that car so much it was ridiculous.

It also comes with a special package:

Poon!

We didn't even try and they were throwing it at us! Massive looks, people giving us the thumbs up, it was just ridiculous. In this car, i felt like some super star driving around. It's definitely an attention grabber, and the drive is amazing. Had this car for a few days, and i wish i had it longer!

here's a picture (taken by our friend)

and here's my ride (for that day)

nope- not for me, i have to have a trunk.

The evo can take a weekend of stuff to the B&B to make the wifey happy so that was the rationale behind buying the evo and not a 2 door. At least mine has a sunroof so I could get the wind through the hair feeling

The Elise makes you realize how big the Evo actually is...
