the new M3 and all M3's before it will have, and do have much more of a soul compared to the everyday run of the mill BMW models case closed

If you tune anything you can make it faster then a stock model that has the nicer engine, hell, if i SC'd my 325 id be faster then an M3, but thats not the case when they are running stock for stock,

therefore
M3 > 335

i made some "comparisons" with a vishnu tuned 335i. search on e90post for my ID and try to find the thread, as this board doesn't condone those behaviors. it was very empty at night, since i never race on the street, but u'll see why i did the runs with him in the thread on that board.

my IX: tbe, mbc@23psi, drop-in filter, fuel pump, on 91 oct.

I actually saw the 3 videos of you racing the 335i. I was going to post the link but then I decided not to for respect to you and also to follow the forum rules.

Great runs. I was surprised because my Evo 9 has the same mods as yours.

that 91 pisstane is killing you

that being said i am sure the new M3 will be more than a lightly modded 335I can handle, especially while turning.

i am really not making this an evo vs. 335i twin turbo bmw debate simply because their is so little known about the 335i but from what I can tell it is a great car...but with say 1200 in mods a Evo 9 can hit 11's (which is fair to say based on IX track runs)..and people are saying it takes something like 1300 dollar chip to make the same power on the 335i as the IX (which is damn good with just a chip) but in all seriousness can a 1300 dollar chip alone allow a car with that much capability to run 11's ( i think not due to traction and other factors that take place at a track)...and don't get me wrong 335i's will be unreal once more is known about the car but as for now "Fusion Chickens" runs with the 335i don't really tell the whole story cuz the majority of people you talk to say real races go from a stop (just like what happens at the tracks)...so on that note i think at this point they are two totally different animals and just like others have stated with European cars you have to pay to play but me...well i'll take little money and run 11's all day ...two thumbs up tho for the beamer sick car

Sligdaddy91,

^^ realisticly, you wouldn't see any 335I running 11's anytime soon due to many factors.

For one, the 335i upgrade mod market is very very limited, in fact there are only cat backs (just a few) and a couple of tuners that makes some flashes and piggybacks.
Secondly, the car weights a lot and for that same reason it wouldn't be competitive until there are more mods available so that the power to weight ratio can be properly even out.
Thirdly, the car has no limited slip differential.

Basicly the car is not ready yet to be competitive to run 11's however it is still a good car to do some hwy pulls where the traction is the least of the issues.

For the $1300 dollars that cost a Vihnu Procede expect the BMW 335i to be competitive to a Evo 9 running on a hwy from a roll with $1300 in mods and running on 91oct.

Many BMW owners are opting for the sport package with 18"wheels and run flat tires that weight a total of 57.5lbs(whole rim/tire assy thing).

As I mentioned before, give it time and people will start putting lighter rims, lighter exhaust ,lighter suspension and start saving 100-150lbs of weight (rotational and static weight )making the car more competitive.

ASTROEVO,

That is the same color as the one I ordered, mine is also the coupe. Looks good.

Ahhh....stick em on the track where real racing is done. Chipped or not a 335 will not sniff the bumper of an evo very long or an M3 for that matter. Its heavy and thats all there is. It has alot of potential which as of now is not really known but its more of a cruisin car, but you will see a few turnin the boost up like our crazy asses

That has been done already(M3 vs 335I ) at the track, in fact I posted the times of a stock 335i vs the M-3.

Specifically I posted the lap times of both cars at Nurbumgring being the M-3 faster by 4 sec. But please allow me to show you why I think that 4 secs are a shame for a M-3 and means nothing:

The M-3 has LSD, the 335I doesn't
The M-3 is fitted with stickier tires, the 335I had run flats
The M-3 is rated at 343hp (Euro model) while the Euro 335i has 306hp
The M-3 weights considerably less while the 335 weights much more
M-3 has brake and suspension oriended for the track while the 335i doesn't(it is for comfort)
4 sec lead in a track that takes you 8 minutes and 30 sec to complete is not much at all.

^^This only shows me something, if you were to reverse this conditions: putting more weight to the M-3, making the 335I lighter, putting run flat tires on a M-3 and putting sticky tires on the 335I, removing the LSD on the M-3 anf fitting a LSD on a 335i and last but not least making a 335 i engine that produces 37hp more crank hp then you will see the M-3 in their knees.

But that is OK, I am very fair on my comments, yes the M-3 is more track ready and it still marginally outperforms a 335i. A chip makes a 335i produce 150lbs /tq more to the crank than a M-3 and roughly 20-30whp more.
If you don't believe thenm look at the car specs, the M-3 makes 262lb/tq at the engine while a 335I shipped makes 380lb/tq to the wheels (well over 400lb/tq to the engine). We are talking of about 150lb/tq to the wheels difference. Replacing the stock run flat tires for a cheap Nittos makes a world of difference and installing a LSD makes the car scream on the handling department.

Don't be the one driving a M-3 on a HWY or a traffic light and get caught by 335I with a chip, it would embarrass the heck out of you for the rest of your life.

My brother Rafael had 3 M-3 so far, the last one was a 2003 M-3, I have driven his M-3s so it is not like I don't know, great cars but the gap between the 335i and the M-3 is marginal. Not being a hater just putting the facts.

I figured I would highlight what absolutely should not be missed by anyone in this thread. You take LSD away from any car with high horsepower and it is immediately at a great dissadvantage. Thankyou Carlos for posting that a few times.

Does anyone know if Dinnan produces LSD's. I would think that the BMW dealer would be able to order that if they did and install it without voiding your drivetrain warranty. I hear a lot of 335i owners are waiting on the quaife units. They are having serious wheel spin and launch issues at the track and onthe street with the PROcede and whatever other flash upgrades they are using. No LSD sucks.

At this point we can't by any means even compare the market demand of a BMW 335i agaisnt the well stablished 4G63 engine market(perhaps the best of any import japanese manufacturer).

With that said it is vastly unfair to compare prices of aftermarket products from one car and another. Just by default alone the BMW parts will be more expensive and that is because BMW manufacturers name weights more on prestige than the Mitsubishi.

As per the current market, yes, the cat backs are still in the $1300 for the cheapest and the flashes are around $600 however the gains are spectacular.
The BMW 335 does not ever needs cams as it has Bi-vanos which not only controls intake but also exhaust. On the Evo, you would eventually would like to replace the cams to squeeze more power. The stock turbos are ridiculously small and set at a very low boost rating but the power is there to be unleashed with a simple flash.

I am not defending either manufacturer, read my signature, I have two BMWs and 2 Mistubishis so it doesn't get any more neutral. Time will tell but this new 335i is going to be an icon. Great choice from BMW to put a pair of Twins on the 335i.

Carlos

This is where I'm coming from-

I owned another European twin-turbo v6. It was a great car, but the mods were incredibly expensive and to make over 450hp was extremely difficult. I understand that the 335 is different than the B5 S4, but they do share some similarities, including smaller turbos shoved into a tight engine bay.

I think the 335 is a great car, but I don't see the gains as being crazy (especially if you start from the car's actual crank hp instead of BMW's list crank hp). It will be extremely expensive to get anywhere near the power of a medium to heavily modded Evo.

335 vs a stock Evo- Well, it's close, but the 335 is definitely more luxurious. It's also around $15k more.

Scorke

You can remove a good amount from an German car... you need to have time. Audi and VW use wax to dampen road noise and ambient sound. Get scrapen and replace nuts bolts ans so on with alu and you could drop a couple hundred. I have removed 180lbs from my gti. As for the b5 s4 with flash and k upgrade snails you get 450whp on average.
