Nice car, I really love the looks of the new mustang's. I just don't see it being worth that price though.(even though it is a saleen) With the high mileage, and how much you owe'd on the Evo I can see why you did it though. Congrats and best of luck. I may trade my Evo in for a base Skyline when it comes out, I may have my Engineering degree by then.

Everyone needs to be comfortable driving what they enjoy. Since the Mustang fits that description for you, I'm glad you were able to get what you wanted. It might not be what guys on the Evo board would buy, but to each his own, right?

I to used to frive only american muscle then came to my senses I'd bet the saleen don't even make it to 30,000 miles. My 03 evo had 75,000 on it with no signs of the stock clutch giving out anytime soon.Evo's are just to mutch fun in the twistys and i highly doubt that saleen will out run the evo,but good luck to ya and i hope your ford works out for ya. From my experiences i'll never buy ford cars again.

So your single example makes the Evo a reliable car? What about all the '03 and '04 Evos that had a litany of problems in the first 10k miles? Not saying Ford is doing everything right, but the Evo, especially the early 8s, are hardly a benchmark for reliability.

To the OP:

If you've got what you want and you're having fun, that's all that matters. Enjoy it!

I'd GMLN for a showroom-condition SR20DET swapped 240Z. We all have our tuner dreams.

The thing that puzzles me is that you paid markup on the Evo AND the Saleen. Bad move both times. There is a dealer in Ca that sells Evo's all day long for invoice. It is also easy to get a plain S281 Saleen for a good bit under msrp. The only Saleen that seems to get the markups right now is the PJ and maybe the S281E.
I've always been a Ford person..still own two Mustangs. I love my Evo though.
BTW, I disagree with your statement that your stock S281 would smoke a stock Evo 9....
I've always liked Saleens. They aren't the best "bang for the buck" buy though.

I'm so glad I'm a car enthusiast and not a car loyalist. An enthusiast loves many cars. A loyalist hates all but one.

You'd think this thread was about feminine hygiene considering all the douches in it...

OP, I'm surprised you passed up on a Terminator. Fairly cheap and awfully fast...

haha. If we really want to get to the heart (non sugar coated) of what many people are thinking/saying/wanting to say in this thread, it would read like this:

The EVO is the best car ever build - you're an idiot for not buying an EVO. Finding things you like better about other cars that aren't EVOs makes me insecure because I'm a very smart person and I only buy the best car (EVO). If you find things about other cars that you like better - you are simply ignorant. I'm spending my hard earned money paying for my EVO so it is DEFINATELY the best. I would hate for people to look at me driving down the road and think I don't have the best car. If they did, I wouldn't be able to wear my sh** don't stink grin and think I'm better than the other fools who bought cars that aren't EVOs. I admit, cars like the Z06 may do one or two things better than the EVO, but with some mods, the EVO will blow them out of the water for less money - thus, the EVO is still the best car ever and you are simply ignorant for buying something you think is better. Oh, and another thing, Fords are unreliable crap and the EVO is about 20x more reliable....I owned a Ford in 1988 and it was a pile. I wouldn't have bought that POS non-EVO car. I hope you like your non-EVO car, but I feel the need to talk crap about your car because it is not an EVO and I like EVOs. I would hate for someone to think they have a better car than me. If they believe they have a better car, they may think that they spent their money more wisely than me. That is simply foolish because I'm smart when it comes to cars and I only buy the best.

But anyway, congrats on the new ride and I hope you enjoy it because that is all that matters
Notice the passive agressive line at the end. They name things they believe are bad about a car someone just bought (for what purpose I don't know...well I do know *insecurity*) and then end it with something like "congrats enjoy the car."

I'm in the military and stationed in a little, secluded part of WA called Oak Harbor. My choices of dealerships is a tad limited and I don't really do much research when I purchase a car, I just don't have the time to search the internet looking for the best "deal". When I bought the EVO, I admit that I made a huge and I mean huge mistake. There was a dealer named Mountian Mitsubishi in Tacoma that I should of found pretty easy with a search in the Northwest section of this fourm but like I said - I just ran out to the closest dealer (KarMart in Bellingham) and got screwed on the EVO. Come to find out, Mountian was selling EVO 9's for invoice with no markup. Oh well, I guess chalk one up to stupidy on my part.
For the Mustang, I did'nt have much to play with considering my trade in (EVO). Most dealerships literaly laughed in my face when I told them how much I owed on the EVO and the killer - how many miles it had. I did try many different dealers and was actually looking heavily into the SRT8 Charger but I tried 5 different Dodge dealers with no luck from either. I then said, OK I really dig the new Mustang Gt so I proceeded to try at least 5 or 6 Ford dealers. Once again, some of the reactions from the salesmen and one saleswoman were commical - I felt like an idiot. I lastly tried some Chevy dealers. Not really wanting a 2 seat sports car like the Vette, I was willing to settle for one if I could have gotten a "bite" from a dealer. The one Chevy dealer I went to was willing to at least talk to me but only wanted to give me the 18 grand the EVO was worth. The GM said he could get me into a new C6 but would have to tack on the max markup the bank would allow. My payments would have been almost a grand a month. I passed on the Vette deal - thank god. It was'nt untill my drive home that I decided to stop at a Ford dealer in Anacortes that I had passed on before because I could see from all the Saleen's on the lot that they probably would not work with me. Boy, was I wrong. Frontier Ford should have been my first stop. My salesman Tom was top notch and the GM over there is a serious gearhead and a cool guy. I have nothing but good things to say about Frontier and I can see why they are the #1 Saleen dealer in the Northwest.
