awd cars posting for a friend

he is looking for a nice reliable, not slow awd car.

hey everyone, im new to the forums so bear with me... i am looking for an awd car that gets somewhat decent gas mileage but is also quick. my budget is around 10,000 but that can be moved up some if necessary. im looking at the audi a4, a6, and the passat 4motion. which would you recommend or is there another car that would be better? thanks for any input!

He could try 1st and 2nd gen dsm... they're very cheap and with the rest of the money he could use for upgrade parts.........

well i dont think he really has the money to spend on mods. Its going to be his daily driver, and 10-11 i think is the max.

Inexpensive, reliable, AWD, decent fuel mileage.... rules out anything ever made.

His best bet might be a Subaru Legacy. He can probably get a 2002 or 2003 model in his price range. Mid/high 20s for fuel mileage, reasonable reliability, not too expensive to fix.

A4 and A6 are not very efficient and won't be very reliable (plus expensive to fix) in that budget range. In that price range, you'd be shopping for a 2001 A4 or a 2000 A6. Passat 4motion gets ****ty gas mileage.

a decent car can be had for as little as $7k and for about $700 he can add an accessport and get up to 60hp more out of it.

i would agree with the wrx as well, decently quick, reliable if you take care of them, sound good and has a good aftermarket following.
