Maybe I should get more serious about considering an MS3 for my DD. Just not a big fan of the looks of either car really. 28 highway mpg isn't too bad.

My impression with the WRX is it's aiming for a wider market by being a bit softer. If you live in Colorado, or so cal even, WRX's are EVERYWHERE. I see them all the time around Hermosa, especially the wagons, because they're practical, AWD is great for outdoorsy people, and it's pretty nice. More often than not, I see a middleaged person driving them. Therefore, make the base WRX a bit soft to appeal to your everyday buyer that might buy an accord/camary, and save the STI for the performance people. Honestly, anyone that wants performance will go straight for the STI anyways and not bother looking at the base WRX.

All I can say about the new WRX is "WTF". They should just rename it to the Subaru WTF. I got in and the car felt pretty nice, with nice seats. Then I started the engine, and it sounded exactly like my brother's 2007 2.5i. Can't hear the turbo or the exhaust note. I took it out for a test drive, and pulling out of the driveway, I noticed the car was slooooow. My god.. my econobox 4g94 Lancer with RRM non-IC kit is faster, no joke. Also the clutch in it is a little softer than the '07 models. Then I took it out through some turns, and it feels like the car is floating on air and going to slide off the road at any moment. It does not dig into the turns at all. The ride feels more like a Toyota Camry than a Subaru. They totally messed up the car, I don't even need to comment on how terrible the exterior looks.

Onto the Mazdaspeed 3..

On the Mazda, they couldn't have made it much better for the price. It has way more power than I expected it to have. The car basically feels like it is on hyper steroid mode. The clutch is amazing, much better feeling than my WORKS stage 2 in the Lancer. Some people said they don't like it, but they must be on crack. The interior is nicely designed with good seats as well. The exterior of the car looks almost exactly like the regular Mazda 3 hatch, so nobody knows you are packing a quick turbo car. Personally, I like the design.

Right now I'm trying to get some reasonable monthly payment options on the Speed3. The first two dealers I went to were asshats, and they wanted anywhere from $450 to $600 per month for a 3 year lease. I calculated it out, and essentially that would be $28,900 for the car if you were to buy it with their calculated residual value. I'm supposed to get a call tomorrow from the only half way trustworthy dealer in the area. It is actually the Subaru dealer working the numbers on the Speed 3 for me.. They own like 15 car different dealerships so I'm trying to get a good deal from a salesperson we bought from before.

My brother owns a speed 3 and it is super fast. His modded speed is faster than my modded evo with similar bolt ons. I actually have more parts than he does. Its an awesome car. Wish it was AWD but I guess nothings perfect right. That car does own the WRX.

 

yea, looked at the2008 wrx the other day and although im sure its a nice car, it still not as nice as the Speed3.My tech owns aEvo8 and i have test driven the Evo9 many times and liked it alot, i did not have enought money to slap down 44,ooo plus on the MR, so i test drove the Speed3 last Nov, and after 1 test drive i traded in my Honda Civic Si 2006, it was that much nicer. Finally i have (almost) the ***** that i felt int he Evo,Sti and M3, without the flair. Yea, its a really good value starting at 23000. I bought the touring for 25000. Put on a CP-E TBE( downpipe with high flow cat into 3"CBE, also Cp-E CAI. Running Mobil1 and riding on Advan Rs Gunmetal racing rims on a Black Mica Speed. 310hp and 320tq at the flywheel. Have not dyno yet but it is plenty fast.Some of the Speeds are hiting the 350whp mark now with meth/water systems, but i am not going that route. EMS and thats it for power(afterall its FWD) Will be putting Cobb AccessPort or CP-E EMS on it when they are done sometime in the next 2 months. Anyway i love the EVO, especially the steering and wanted you guys to no we are out there if you ever need to chat about cars or beer, i love beer.Peace!!!!!!!!!!

 

Nice pickup. The MS3's are getting great reviews and are really nice cars for the value....definately the car to get if you cant get past the "controversial design" of a new srt-4 or cant throw down on a new Evo. good luck with your MS3 and IIRC one of the motor mounts have been known to fail on the MS3....you should look into it .

 

The Speed 3 is an amazing "bang for buck" car, but I'm just not crazy about the styling.

Of all the cars in that segment I'd probly go with the GTi.

yeh... new wrx is horrible.... one of the worst looking cars ever. MP3 is a clean looking car. well done, simple.
