Mazda Wooshing sound
Hey guys,
I know this is typically a lancer forum but i figured i'd post this since its a general car question i'm sure. I drive a lancer so thats why i'm here
Havent been on here much since i took my turbo off though, ANYWAY
My girlfriend's 98 mazda protege has developed a strange noise over the last week and a half. It either happens during normal driving, or just turning. The sound can best be described as a wooshing air noise. Think turbo sucking in air sound, that varies in intensity based on throttle position. You can rev the engine and it will make the noise, but you can't hear it at idle. Sometimes (especially when the car is first being driven after sitting) it will happen only during turns. The power steering fluid is a tad low (just a little bit below the low line, so we're going to fill that back up today, however i just wanted to check if you guys have any other ideas in the event that it isnt the power steering pump. The noise is coming from the passenger side of the engine bay (same side as the belt) and it isnt intake or vaccuum related.

Nothin? adding some fluid tonight, we'll see
And since i made this post, some wonderful patron of Target decided to ding my lancer in the parking lot and drive off when i was in the store, so now i cant open my drivers side door! The front quarter panel is pushed in about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch and the door now hits the quarter panel as i open it. Time to take the wheel well panel off this weekend and get behind there to bang it off. If not, anyone got any quick instructions to take the drivers side front QP off on an 02-03 lancer?
