I don't think it's possible. Look at the 350z for example - about 3350lbs without a backseat and no V8 engine.

I'd say 3400-3450 is minimum, but I could easily see it being over 3500lbs.

The 350z is a much bigger car. Look at a car that's more comparable in size, such as the Pontiac/Saturn Solstice/Sky. They come in at about 2900 lbs. Hyundai should be able to stay within 200 lbs of that. Not sure where you got the V8 thing from, Hyundai is only offering either a turbo 4 cyl or a 6 cyl engine.

Looking at the pictures of that Hyundai car next to the Mustang I can honestly say this car will not weight under 3300lbs considering the new safety regulations and such. The current trend in the car market is that cars from generation to generation get heavier. I just don't see how Hyundai can build a sports car about the size of a Mustang that will weight at 2900lbs. It's wishful thinking. I was one of the few who fell for the Evo X and how Mitsubishi claimed that weight reduction was a priority in it's design only later to find out that the US spec version will weight 3500lbs, thats heavier than the 2WD Outlander.

Should've clarified, a hard top design with drop top secondaries, not the other way around. I like the GXP, but Im just not into the convertible scene, or I'd have been a big Solstice/Sky and S2000 fan.

Not to mention the Solstice GXP is easily over 28k.

Well, compared to the S2K, I'd say thats a good value. But still too much, for its overall usefulness.

Didn't realize the GXP cost so much Here's hoping Hyundai pulls this off for the low 20's price. It'll be a hit.

Id buy one in a heartbeat. You figure...even with a luke-warm motor, a 20k or under price tag would be worth it.

This article says V6 - others have said 300+ hp V8.

Where did you find the size at? By the way it looks in the pictures, it isn't much smaller than a Mustang. I seriously doubt it'll be the size of a little 2-seater roadster.

I think people are just getting confused between the new Tib and the Genesis concept.

As for the size, I may just be in denial. The car does look pretty big in the picture, but at the same time I can't imagine it being that big if they're looking to stay in the same relative market as the previous Tibs.

The current Tiburon weights in at around 3000lbs ( http://www.hyundaiusa.com/vehicle/ti...ecs/specs.aspx ) and the current trend in auto industry that cars from generation to generation get rather heavier than lighter, add in new safety equipment, new more rigid platform, and at hyundais price point you can forget about many aluminum parts. Also, the current generation Tiburon was introduced in 2002 and a 3000lbs car in 2002 definately wasn't the lightest by any means to begin with, for comparison a 2002 2.0l V6 Eclipse weighted 100lbs more.

This car will be well under 3400lbs. I bet its going to come in around 3100.

Its funny they have it next to the mustang. It was said last year the Genesis would have a 4.6L v-8. Not going to happen. But an inline 4 banger with a turbo will be very cool in deed.

They just had a blurb in Autoweek. But no mention of a rear diff?

They also said New York Auto show for a production version , with sales starting Mid 2008 as a 2009 model.

Congrats to Hyundai. Im really liking the rear drive 335i Im driving. Fun to kick the tail out and do some long burn outs!

Great car for the low $20k's
