I'm not Taiwanese and not an owl.

I like wagons for some weird reason.

I'm just saying, the majority of Volvo drivers, I've seen happen to be Taiwanese or older white ladies.

Anyway, wagons are awesome.

If its just something to drive with some pep I would get it. If u are looking for a sleeper and want to mod, I wouldn't get the auto. I thought you could get it in stick too?

I dont get the Volvo. It's one of the most unexciting car brand I have ever driven. I prefer a Ford or Chevy any day.

They are not really fast at all. I've driven an S60R, and they feel heavy and lethargic. I'd consider a V70R to be "peppy," maybe, but not fast. 1/4 mile around 14.4 @ 99mph.

That's about the speed of stock WRX's, but about $15k more than a used WRX. If you want some maturity and luxury, the Volvo is an ok car, but if you want a "peppy" wagon, I think a used Legacy GT wagon is a better financial choice.

This is all coming from a guy that loves wagons. I'm currently driving a 92-X wagon as a daily driver.

I have a Volvo S60R and its a fun car for a faimly sedan and with AWD its fun in all conditions. You have to know though its not the same type of AWD as a EVO. ITS BETTER! and WORSE! There are alot of things to like about the S60R its safe, quick, stops great!, and most of all it gets decent gas mileage 26-28mpg! not bad for a 300hp 3600# car. I have raced a few Evo 8's in mine and they are very close races with the Volvo pulling it out on the top end. The one downside to the S60R is visibility out of the car can be a bit tricky at times kind of like a 350Z so its not horrible but its not fantastic in that area. The handling is fun but you really have to left foot brake the car if you want to pitch it into corners and keep the power up on exit. Also, for some reason it always feels as though you let off the gas and it keep pulling for a second or so. I think this has to do with the electric throttle and to be honest I am not a fan of it. Overall though I would buy another S60R because I love the sound of the I5 and the overall performance for a car at its price range and comfort level. Also, I agree the car feels slow but its not that bad for what it is and a stock WRX isn't going to keep pace with a S60R thats is utter dumb talk from someone who really has no seat time in a Volvo S60R as it runs door to door with my 993 up to 140mph then it pulls my 993 to 155. P.S. My 993 has gone 13.5@104. However, out of the hole the volvo is just plain slow it can't cut better then a 1.9 60ft if its life depends on it. Most drivers can only get 2.1-2.4 60fts out of the volvo.

Here is a race against a buddie in his Evo 8 with Turboback, Intake, MBC @ 19psi the volvo is 100% as it left the factory.

(I misshifted the volvo)

P.S. Buy an early S60R they have larger turbo and a better ECU for power. Never buy an automatic as the power is cut down and they are much slower.

I guess I can't call BS because you posted videos, but I really can't believe a stock S60 is pulling on a lightly modded Evo like that. It looks like the S60R runs about a 14.0 1/4 stock, and a V70R runs a 14.4. Those times are both slower than stock Evo's. I don't know much about the I5 motor, but can it be THAT much more efficient at the top end??

The Volvo shouldn't be making more than about 240whp, and a modded evo would be putting down more than that with a MBC and turboback. Not to start an argument or anything, I was just surprised at the outcome of that "race."

As was the owner of the Evo and as a result he got cams and a tune from Buschur not long after. Anyways, The volvo puts down far more then 240whp as a matter of fact I put down 272 to the front wheels at 1bar. The main reason the volvo can keep pace with the Evo from a roll is because obviously it makes more then 300hp but also because its AWD system has far less loss then the EVO. Its more in line with that of a FWD car because of the way that it works. That is one of the advantages to the system that it employees. The system has its downsides mainly falling in that its horrible for handling alot of power. Also, another reason that I won is because I would get the jump on him because I was brake boosting he wasn't I think if it wasn't for that fact the race would have been much closer.

Wow, that's interesting info. That's the beauty of cars, they all have their nuances that owners get to know. What's the story with the later model R's getting a smaller turbo?

As a side note, I read a review of an R a few years back, and they counted like 17 of the "R" logos on the car. They were everywhere -- on the wheels, on the brakes, on the dash, on the shifter, just everywhere.
