EVO vs. s2000... RELIABILITY!
A) Mitsu didn't want to fork out the 8k to replace the motor that soon
B) Oil starvation, apparently its normal for a new engine to go through 5 qts of oil in 3000 miles and I was supposed to be checking it and filling it up (it was TOTALLY dry of oil, no leaks or anything ever either)... Who knows why. I think it was a freak though, never ever EVER heard of it happening to anyone else, so no worries for any prospective Evo buyers (except on having a warranty).
Do a search for Warranty Void Evo or something like that, there was a thread forever ago, and a bunch of articles on my car and the whole deal. Its all posted by MSM_S2K though, since my father was kind enough to be my "warranty" and deal with all the BS from Mitsu while I was dealing with college.

Or you got ANY instrution about checking the oil, after you left the dealership?
I would blame the dealership then! They have to be sure the car is ready for use! Ergo it has essential fliud in it, or working properly!
I wouldnt stop for sure!
We dont have to be mechanic to drive the car.
I had 107k on my s2k, and only did oil changes! Ive only had my IX for a little over 4 mo and no probs so far, but i would be dissapointed if i did with just over 36k on the evo. Like previously said tho, you shouldnt compare the two. The s2k is just THAT reliable, and i was way harder on it than my Evo.
this is f&*cked up. whos fault is it, if not the dealer or the manufacturer? If you where a pregnant women or 72 years old lady, you should check the oil too, right after you got the car? You guys dont have a lemon law?

We have a lemon law, apparently it wouldn't apply either, they had significant "evidence" to show it was owner fault. And a bunch of other BS, Mitsu Corp is evil.
No instruction on checking the oil (course RX8 buyers don't get instruction either, and on a rotary it is definitely a necessity, neither do Porsche buyers [the boxer engine likes oil]).
The "dealer" to blame was technically the one in Arizona, we're in Utah, no go there either.
I have a friend who just said to me "it's still a Honda and it's still 20 times more reliable than an EVO" when I explained to him that the s2000 was STILL a sports car and not an "Accord kind of reliable". I explained to him that if you abuse the car, it will cost you... parts are not CHEAP, and just because it is a Honda doesn't mean it is bullet proof.
Considering the abuse delivered to the common EVO, if it where applied to an s2000 would it be just as reliable? Or would the s2000 indeed be a costly car to keep up with? I say that they are along the same lines, and that there are more "problemless, regular maintinence up to 90,000 miles" s2000s because a lot of people don't beat the SNOT out of them like they do EVO's...
The problems that EVO's face under abuse:
Transfer Case repair or replace
4th and 5th Gear grinds
Expensive clutch jobs ($1,500 or so)
and then you have the 4G63 which has been built for 20+ years now? And is considered to be one of the best motors ever built...
I am not 100% formilliar with what goes wrong with the s2000 but I have heard of (correct me if I am wrong)...
Rear differential repair or replace
Gear grinds
Expensive clutch jobs ($1,300 oem dealer quoted)
I am NOT saying one is better than the other! I am simply trying to get acrossed to him that EITHER car will cost you if you abuse it and JUST because it is a Honda... does not mean it is invincible and under the SAME owner abuse they will both hurt the wallet. He seems to feel that these cars are Honda Accord reliable. I beg to differ. Though I am not saying the EVO is a Camry.
What do you guys think.

The s2000 is rated THE most reliable sports car EVER made. I work in sales for Honda and its one of the things they teach you in training. They have done studies on the overall maintenance, reliability, repair cost amounts, and overall cost of ownership. The s2000 is number 1 ladies and gentleman! Look it up.

Evo's are like race cars for the street. Of course, they are going to need to take a pit every once in a while. You can't expect it not to have some problems. It's a high-boosting turbo engine.
. After 9 years of production they need to retire the s2000. Ill be sad to see it go but Honda is planning a new platform to replace it with. They honestly haven't even been selling well in the last two years anyway. You can lease one for 350m right now though. Anyone interested hit me up!
