Looking for a nice, higher MPG car. What to get?

Ok, this is all an idea at the moment. For now.

I have an 03 Evo VIII, and I love the thing, but it's just getting pricey to use it all the time, and upkeep and such. Very slightly thinking about selling.

I want something around $20,000, little higher/lower and could be a little used. Needs to be usable all year around with winters. (Real winters ) Needs to have a better MPG then the Evo and I'd prefer cheaper gas. Plus I'd like something more on the sporty side. (In general, not compared to the Evo).

Shoot me some ideas here.

I'm liking the Mini Cooper-S, but not sure how they are in the winter. I always use snow tires, but clearance may be an issue.

As a normal driver I liked the Scion Tc's actually. Nice options, good reliability, I like the looks. Very usable.

Mazda 3 GT dosen't seem to bad. Not sure on specs for the 3speed.

Anyone have any other ideas, options?

Also, what should I look to get for my VIII if I sell? 55k miles, basics as far as mods. Very clean, and babied. Still on stock clutch @55k so you know I'm easy on her.

Doesn't have to be AWD by any means. FWD with dedicated snows is fine for me.

I think posting in the "other cars" forum would be a start...

To give some feedback as to what your asking though, maybe a used Civic Si? They're sporty and get good gas mileage, front-wheel drive so you can go in the snow.
Scion TC is a serious chick car, no man should ever own one, & I can't stand Mini's...
Just my .02

G/L with whatever you decide.

From a pure gas mileage standpoint, the mini has the highest avg mpg.

The mazda gets better highway mpg but much worse city mpg.

Now... you could always buy an Access port for the evo, have your current map become the default map (saving it), and turn it to economy mode and just pretend your drivng a very nice looking geo metro, if you want to save on gas.

I used to own a Scion tC...

Honestly, the fuel economy wasn't that great for the size of the car's motor, HP, etc. I would average 25mpg on the highway and the same in the city. The car's downfall is really the gearing. In 5th on the highway, you'll be sitting around 3k rpm cruising between 65-70, just wasting gas. When I had that car I would always feel like I was missing a 6th gear.

If you aim is for higher fuel economy, I'd probably keep looking. Hope this info helped!

Something to keep in mind. Thanks. Right now though, I'm getting like 200 miles to a tank of fuel in the Evo, and with 93 running close to 3.60 a gallon......

It's better then my Chevelle though which uses the same gas and gets 6 mpg in town aand about 11 on the highway.

I feel you man. It's time to get another DD and keep the Evo beast tamed in the garaged.
